I was under the impression that GW did away with that program. I know somebody that keeps spouting off that he is a current outrider for GW. I ask this because GW sent me a letter a couple years ago saying they were no longer sponsoring outriders, thanking me for my time. When did they reinstitute the program?

They're 'soon' to be replaced by 'Kommandos', whatever the hell they are. Probably GW trying to emulate (again!) PP's Pressgangers but only achieving half of that, i.e. expecting volunteers to do all the work and giving them nothing in return.

Outriders are dead, dead, dead.
Dead.
Anyone saying they are still an Outrider deserves a good cock-punch.

It's basically a placeholder ad for the "Kommandoz" program I had heard that the program was supposed to be restarted sometime this month, but it' hasn't seemed to happen yet. The Outrider program lasted a little while longer out here in the west until they deregionalized the program.

They're slaves who run events and promote GW games.
I mean, "volunteers".
If you play Warmachine, I think they're similar to the Pressgangers.

It used to be that Outriders--volunteers who loved the game and wanted to promote it--would run events at stores and the like and would get paid in product. IIRC, an Outrider had a free WD subscription, and got paid something like $100 in product (including bits) for helping with cons and $75 for running local events (though it might have been less: HF, wanna help out here?). In the early days, Outriders were a big part of GW's success in this country, and it was a great way to support your illness/hobby. Toward the end, the program was less and less supported and seemed to attract people more interested in yelling "Waagh" around the unwashed masses or ripping the company off by claiming to run events and not doing so.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.
I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil |

And lets not forget that when GW decided to end the program, they did so by telling all the outriders that had just helped them at x-events taht they would no longer be honoring their "comp" coupons for merchandise. Great way to tell your core customers to go take a flying leap, something GW has a lot of practice doing.

They did indeed give a free WD subscription and product for running events. I am not sure what the formula was as it was never consistent. The most I had ever received was $150 in product from them for running a RTT here. Other RTT's I ran sometimes nothing would show up (the venue did report the event) and other times I got stuff for doing absolutely nothing (I received an Iwo Jima Diorama once for just being me). Though there were many reports for tons of abuse near the end of the program (one of the shops I ran games at falsely said games were being run, unbeknownst to me, and recieving product to stock his shelves, which was promptly reported to GW) I have no idea if that was the reason why the product kick back stopped for outriders. I think it was a mix of that and GW's own bean counters saying that the $20 in product that equated to $150 retail was too much to hand out for promoting their games.
