Mel what do you mean by simpler, larger doors? i currently run 5 wide by 2 high door setup, i had it as wide as 7 but my revamp has narrowed it. The whole setup is relatively simple and allows the door to open and stay open until it is activated on the other side.

to keep mobs from opening the door, the outside activation is a button while the inside is pressure plates.

i could make a build of it on a creative single player world to show others how i have built my gates.

its a bit hard to see but I use a combination of arches and inset crenellations to add some depth to my otherwise flat structure. also throwing in another material type can help you to create some different visuals.

the obsidian layer is behind the stone brick layer on the non-detailed exterior, there are also a few stacks in one of the chests in the sandstone shack. as an FYI, only the south and west gates are working at the moment. if food is needed the wood hut to the south is an auto-melon farm.

Ok i have been out of touch with MC and the server for a while so bear with me while i ask some noob questions.

What gives you the buffs at spawn?

I traded with the villagers at spawn to get a diamond pick with eff 3 and unbreaking 3 and i want to add a fortune 3 to it. how do i know how many levels i need to be able to add the 3rd property onto the pick?

Is there an exp near spawn so i can farm the needed levels to enchant this pick?

I have the book with fortune 3 and the diamond pick and I put both into the anvil at the trading center in the correct order (pick first then book) and there was a red X between the book and the final item and no levels listed.

I even tried a stone pick I had on my person just to see what levels were needed and I still see the red X.

ok im having a bit of a problem with an in-game bug and i have tried to fix it multiple ways and im still having the problem and it is really making my area unplayable.

i have blocks of placed glowstone that refuse to emit light. my area is so old i cant really remember when i placed them but if i had to guess i would say before the last server move.

I have broken the blocks and used the dust to make new blocks and used those but i am still having the same problem and i have no idea why.

i can get them to light again if i place a block near or on them and remove it but it is not a perma fix.

You got some real problems. Maybe you need to do a fresh install, maybe your settings aren't on the latest version, maybe you have a mod that's affecting things. I don't know. Does glowstone from other places malfunction or is it just your glowstone?


I am playing on a fresh install with no mods, this is the first time I have ever had MC on this machine. I have a feeling it has to do with when things were copy & pasted from the old server. The original area had some hills and what was pasted in is now flat so maybe the game is still thinking there are blocks in the way. I have gone to spawn and back and it seems like only my area is a problem.

i am less interested in XP farms as someone sorted out the pick problem i was having. I am more concerned about the placed blocks of glowstone that are not functioning properly.

I do not have the redstone to make 50+ lamps i would need.

Lotet, i did exactly what you did. I saw the ones that were not working, i broke them and re-made the glowstone blocks using the dust that dropped. At some point they revert back to not working (i just checked my base and the blocks you placed are also not emitting light. This is really odd because the whole area worked at one time, i guess an update bugged it out.

Does anyone else get issues with glowstone like this?

thanks for the lamps Lotet, i guess that is the route i will have to go with lighting my pathways.

so i want to use a resource pack and i see a large number require Optifine HD and shader mods. can these be run on the vanilla server?

well i give up. i went around replacing the glowstone blocks with glowstone lamps. i put levers under them and set them on. i log in tonight and they are still in the on position but not displaying any light AGAIN.

I think it is time for a new project and will use this for materials.

i tried the air block removal, i put a single layer of dirt over my entire path in areas that are bugged. When i remove the dirt it works until i log off and log back on and it goes right back. so i tried 2 high and it is still the same, its ok until i log off then its back to being broken.

at this time i have gone back to playing single player. the lighting bug i am having seems to not have a fix, glowstone and lamps when placed stop emitting light when i log off and log back on.

there are still a few things i can try such as trying to place the lights one blow lower but i have too much time invested in this project to really want to abandon it.


UPDATE: so it seems placing my glowstone one block lower worksand i have done this in a couple placed and logged off and on a few times and it seems to have worked. it is still really odd that going one block lower in an open area is now ok for Minecraft to register the block correctly.

i have found a work around to the issue by building one level lower but there is a section i have not gotten to if you want to fiddle around with in case someone else has this issue.

The experimental spawn building looks like a good start but it is too flat and feels dull.I think adding a bit of depth to the flat faces would really make it pop.

This is my current progress on my new places. As you can see by adding a few details to the outside of some basic shapes it really changes the look of things.

Do we really need a reset? Has Dark said if it was possible to make a second spawn way far away that we could TP to? I think it would be a good idea to have a spawn outpost with a 3k diameter reveal on the map. This would let players explore the new biomes and such without having to start over. This second area could be designated a build at your own risk area and could have the chunks reset with other major updates. If you happen to find a spot on the new chunks you like perhaps it might be possible to have Dark copy certain spots from the new chunks over to the old chunks?

There are a lot of players white-listed on the server and only a small percentage are active, i would think we would need to put it to a vote before real considerations of a restart would be made. I also think we would need some input from Dark on what his ideas are and what our current options are.

TBH i am not really a fan of a new map, while the idea of new biomes is great i have just encountered bugs that come with copy and pasting from map to map. The bugs i have encountered were part of the reason i am tearing down my old base and rebuilding it somewhere else.

i have been going at a good pace tearing down my old place to build a new and more improved place nearby.

My old place has a lot of obsidian that i do not need so if someone needs any they can take down what they want.

I think there is around 2k blocks worth.

if you need food while breaking blocks the melon shack is still functional, it just looks like hell as i needed to look at the internals to be able to replicate it en masse.

I am in need of a sword for my spider xp farm, i would try and make it myself but i have no clue how enchanting works and i rarely live long enough to make it to level 20.

i am willing to pay 10 diamonds for a diamond sword with the following enchants:
Unbreaking 5
Bane of Arthropods 5
Mending
Sweeping Edge 3

I would like the unbreaking because it is for an exp farm so i can use the exp on my mending tools.

yesterday was a crazy day and i must have had a derp moment when i read all of the enchants. The sword should be exactly what i need. I will have to test it later today. Thank you for taking the time to make it, i have your payment in the chest.

I have finally finished my automated kelp farm. It only takes up a single chunk and pretty much does its own thing. There is a way to reset the whole thing if the kelp age slows it down.

There might be a way to automate the drying process but that is beyond me.

I had quite a few sunken ships, sunken ruins and hidden treasures looted outside my base the first day we updated the server.

I am also wondering when the map will be updated to reflect the ocean reset. My motivation to work on my base has been nil because i cannot view my progress.

Much of the ocean chunks were updated after the ocean update so there is that. I can't think of anything else really.

On another note, is there a blaze farm any place? i would like to farm for some rods for brewing.

ok there is something seriously going on with the server. some days i can connect fine, some days it is really slow at the loading terrain section and then spits out: Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

when i see that i give up for a few days and then the server will just randomly work again. Today i died while caving and respawned at my base and then got kicked with this error message and now i am unable to connect and will lose items due to despawn because i cannot connect to the server.

At this point the server is unplayable for me as it is very inconsistent with connectivity.

Eventually the server decided to work and i was able to get my items without loss, it still took almost 20 mins to be able to log back on.
