THE STORY
The ravaged world of Tallarn now plays host to the greatest armoured conflict in the history of mankind, with the bitter and vengeful Iron Warriors leading warhosts of tanks and Titans across the befouled plains. In desperation, a covert team of Imperial Fists resort to seemingly unthinkable measures in order to regain the upper hand - but will their mission to seize the macro-transporter Eagle's Talon ensure victory, or merely spell doom for their loyal allies on the surface below?

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
This audio recreates a tense boarding action via a series of linked 'found extracts' of Imperial Fists vox-communications. This unique take on the Black Library audio drama makes for a immersive and gripping listen.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/umbra-sumus-hardback.html

THE STORY
The Space Marines of the Dark Hunters, descendants of the White Scars and their savage primarch Jaghatai Khan, are called to battle on the world of Ras Hanem, a world they thought long since liberated from the grip of heresy and returned to Imperial rule. Many years ago, the Dark Hunters defeated the traitor warband known as the Punishers on that world, in a conflict that left deep wounds in the Chapter. But now the Punishers have returned, seeking vengeance upon their would-be destroyers. Captain Jonah Kerne of Mortai Company is sent to annihiliate the traitors once and for all, but the cost of victory may be too high for him to bear…

READ IT BECAUSE
It’s all action, all the time. Definitely the underdog, the Dark Hunter Space Marines face off against the sprawling forces of the Punishers horde – old enemies who only want revenge. The Dark Hunters don’t have all the gear, but you’ll admire their mad ambush skills and stubborn tenacity.

Out early feb.

Yes.

From what I gather you won't have to have read/listened to the others but it will indeed help.

Can't help but think that the Garro collection might have been better off being released prior to Vengeful Spirit but hindsight is etc etc

http://www.blacklibrary.com/new-at-bl/interview-with-the-chapter-master-of-the-dark-hunters.html

Hey readers,
Umbra Sumus is the first ever novel to star the Dark Hunters Space Marine Chapter. With the release of this much anticipated new book now less than 48 hours away, we caught up with author Paul Kearney to find out more about this little-known Chapter and what we can look forward to in this first novel-length adventure.

"...a single under-strength company of Space Marines can be more fearsome than tens of thousands of human soldiers."

NEW@BL: Tell us about your novel 'Umbra Sumus'

Paul: The book deals with urban warfare, the siege and assault of a great city which is teeming with millions of civilians. Not only do we see the desperate defence by the Imperial Guard, but there is also the ferocious onslaught of the Dark Hunters themselves. Through the book, we come to understand how a single under-strength company of Space Marines can be more fearsome than tens of thousands of human soldiers.

We're all about some classic Warhammer 40,000 siege warfare, but we suspect that there are also some compelling stories alongside the brutal urban war?

There are a number of reversals of fortune throughout the novel, where victory turns to defeat and back again. But at its heart, the story is about a tight-knit group of Adeptus Astartes who have all fought together for decades, even centuries, and who would die without thought or question for one another. They are, in the end, brothers in every sense of the word. That does not mean they all like each other. But their brotherhood is all that will carry them through some of the most savage and hopeless fighting they have ever experienced.

What makes the Dark Hunters distinctive from other Space Marine Chapters?

The Dark Hunters are known and revered as the most stubborn in defence of all Adeptus Astartes chapters. Their history is chequered with tragedy. Three times, their brotherhood has been brought to the brink of extinction, but each time they have returned, rebuilt, and have recruited and clawed their way back into the Imperium's annals. They are a poor Chapter as a result, under strength, badly equipped and almost forgotten except in shadowy legends. Not for them the luxury of a vast fleet, or a multitude of armoured vehicles, or a cloud of air support. They have learned to take the roundabout route to victory, to utilise stealth, cameleoline, and the art of ambush.
That said, when they finally are brought to bay, nothing can move them. They will die where they stand.

Thanks Paul.

We're looking froward to it.

Dark Hunters: Umbra Sumus will be available to order this Friday, as either a hardback edition, eBook or MP3 audiobook.

... Sad news - only rumour but sounds plausible enough

Tallarn. Ironclad is a short novel. Bigger than a novella but not quite a novel and is being sold in the first edition format. In the logo box. For 40 pounds. It is not in the numbered novel line.

..well if this does turn out to be the case won't be reading this until it's reprinted.

Conflicting reports that it's actually £27.50 - £30 which is more what one was expecting.

Different formats maybe ..?

EDIT : Hmm... Ironclad is indeed £40 special edition.

Oh well.

Soulforge is getting a regular release "soon".

Automatically Appended Next Post:
"Blades of the traitor" -- see earlier posts -- : 2 of the stories are Daemonology and Black Occulus both of which are ebooks released via the BL site.

More oddly, the Dark Hunters novel and e-shorts -- previous page, mad ambush skills et al -- appears to have been pulled completely.

Even the blog posts relating to it/them have gone...?

.. which is odd, to say the least.

Can only assume it must be a rights issue perhaps ?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark-Hunter ...? Surely not ?!

BL are releasing the various stories that make up "Blades of the Traitor" as individual stories or in one discounted bundle.

Which is fair enough IMO

Believe that the next hardback HH novel should be end of June/July.

and with many thanks to Mr Shaggy from the Bolthole an update about Medusason

A bit of expansion on "Meduson"...

Only available to buy from the new BL shop at Warhammer World - at least for the first (numbered, limited edition) release. No web purchases etc - only in person over the counter. Once they've done the grand re-opening thing in May (apparently there will be 3 permanent stores there - Black Library, Forge World and standard GW).

Laurie Goulding did specifically say that "Meduson" will be made available on a general release at some point in the future.

He has also stated (more than once) that all Black Library content will (eventually) appear in all formats... so e-books in print, print in e-format, audio in print (and I am guessing in e-format as well?) and that all Horus Heresy content will eventually be released in print in number format (as per the novels).

From what I've gathered, this isn't a novella, but a full-blown novel this time round, correct?

ish.

It's basically 2 novellas released as one. So twice as long as a novella but not quite as long as a full novel.

Gut feeling is it'll be split into 2 separate £15 non collectors as/when but that's entirely supposition on my part.

The 2 recent audio dramas related to this are both quite good.

Hope you got that sorted !

.. Ironclad was a pretty cool read.

Not quite sure it was deserving of the hoopla/format. As the book was 230 odd pages think they might as well have just bitten the bullet and released it as a full regular novel.

Wouldn't be any-more confusing to readers than, say, the (re)appearence of various grey clad figures in Vengeful Spirit one would suggest...?

Anyway ...

Alongside the somewhat out of leftfield release of the Bloodbowl novels

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/the-blood-bowl-ebook-collection.html -- also available individually

The various necromunda novels have made the jump to ebook as well

http://www.blacklibrary.com/ebooks/necromunda

.. might be of interest to some anyway.

.. and then those same people can curse the fact that none of these made it the POD service that GW were running for a while

Sigmar's Blood is kind of a prequel... there might be one other novella that sets it up as well ...?

Think a lot of the background was seeded in the various army books, with most of the details being detailed in the various supplements, the novels then providing a more detailed "snapshot" of a few key moments/events.

... I think ...

Not much news or many releases really of late.

There's some new art prints etc and a few -- short -- audio dramas for the HH.

... I believe the changes to the WFB worlds have caused or at least contributed towards this somewhat barren patch...

.. anyway, there's an interview here with Mr Abnett

http://www.eatgeekplay.com/creative-spaces-dan-abnett/

Which mainly deals with the hows and wheres of writing but does include ..

What are you currently working on?

I’m writing Guardians 3000 and Korvac Saga for Marvel, He-Man for DC, several 2000AD strips, several games, and a Warhammer novel. I’ve just finished work on my creator-owned Boom! book Wild’s End (with Ian Culbard) and that was huge fun… and a big enough success to warrant a second series. Some projects are just starting, some are ending, and some are waiting to happen. The Warhammer novel will be done soon, and after that is a Tomb Raider novel, and then I start on an original fantasy novel for Gollancz, which I’m really looking forward to and is a big deal for me. There’s a lot I can’t talk about at the moment in terms of games and comics.

Now "warhammer novel" could just be shorthand or just a generic reference but I think he knows the IP enough that he might well mean an actual warhammer/fantasy novel.

I think he'd specify it it being 40k or HH or whatever if that's what it was.

And if one was to (re)launch your fantasy setting then one would suggest that Mr Abnett would certainly be a good choice to help set the tone of the setting.

possibly.

Seems this week we're getting e-book releases of stories from a past event special :

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/the-imperial-truth-ebook-collection.html

THE STORY
The Emperor decreed long ago that there were no gods upon the Earth or in the sky, and that all of mankind's belief and aspirations should be poured into His vision for the galaxy instead. Upon such unshakeable foundations was the Imperium to be built - except that the Imperial Truth was a lie, and the powers that the Emperor denied had already sunken their claws into many of his sons. With the treachery of Horus now known from the Eastern Fringe to holy Terra itself, how many more of his father's words will be proven false in the days to come?

IN THIS COLLECTION
Hands of the Emperor by Rob Sanders
By the Lion's Command by Gav Thorpe
Lord of the Red Sands by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
All that Remains by James Swallow
The Phoenician by Nick Kyme
The Devine Adoratrice by Graham McNeill

READ IT BECAUSE
This anthology contains six stories exposing the sinister side of the Emperor’s will. Discover how his light and his just followers fall into shadow – and it's within these shadows that evil lurks..

Looks like 1 will be released per day, suspect that the Angron and Fulgrim related ones might well be released together -- they're both really short, 2-3 pages each.

Asurmen is the first and greatest of the Phoenix Lords, a demigod of battle whose legend spans the stars. He shielded his people from destruction at the time of the Fall, and led his chosen warriors, the Dire Avengers, in defence of the eldar for ten thousand years. A superlative warrior and peerless leader, Asurmen is one of the greatest hopes of the eldar race.
Horus Heresy Deathfire by Nick Kyme

Vulkan lies in state beneath the Fortress of Hera, and yet many of his sons still refuse to believe that he is truly dead. After a seemingly miraculous rescue by the Ultramarines, Artellus Numeon, once captain of the Pyre Guard, urges the other Salamanders on Macragge to leave Imperium Secundus and return their primarch’s body to the home world of Nocturne – there to be reborn in the flames of Mount Deathfire. But Numeon grapples endlessly with his doubts and fears for the future of the Legion, while their foes seek to carve out new destinies of their own..

Ahriman: Unchanged by John French

It has taken many long years and countless sacrifices, but finally Ahriman, former Chief Librarian of the Thousand Sons, now exile and sorcerer, is ready to attempt the most audacious and daring feat of his long life. His quest for knowledge and power has all been for one purpose, and he would now see that purpose fulfilled. His goal? Nothing less than undoing his greatest failure and reversing the Rubric that damned his Legion…

I Am Slaughter by Dan Abnett

As the greatest Ork Waaagh! ever seen threatens to engulf the galaxy, the Imperial Fists make their last stand

It is the thirty-second millennium and the Imperium is at peace. The Traitor Legions of Chaos are but a distant memory and the many alien races that have long plagued mankind are held in check by the Space Marines. When a mission to exterminate one such xenos breed on the world of Ardamantua draws in more of their forces, the Imperial Fists abandon the walls of Terra for the first time in more than a thousand years. And when another, greater, foe strikes, even the heroic sons of Rogal Dorn may be powerless against it. The Beast Arises… and it is mighty.

Whilst one is always glad to read more work by Mr Abnett, given this and the Kharn series that is also up and running..well ... I'd prefer it if they actually finished the whole HH thing they've got going on before they then start filling in the gaps about M32 and so forth.

THE STORY
After the decimation of his Legion on the killing fields of Isstvan V, the primarch Corax sanctioned an accelerated implantation process to create new Raven Guard – a process subverted in secret by his enemies. But in spite of their horrendous mutations, the warriors of the Raptors still stand ready to do their primarch’s bidding. When a watch-pack of Space Wolves legionaries arrives unannounced, it falls to Lieutenant Navar Hef to greet their warlike kinsmen and decide whether or not they might be hiding flaws of their own...

Not a bad story at all, not essential by any means but cool enough.

http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/garro-knight-errant-cd.html

THE STORY
Long has been the road of Nathaniel Garro. After surviving the treachery of Isstvan III and the terror of his escape aboard the Eisenstein, he has become a paragon of loyalty and protector of the innocent. Whilst his Death Guard brothers faltered and fell, his belief in Emperor and Throne remained true. For his charge is a most sacred one, given unto him by none other than Malcador the Sigillite, to recruit the Knights Errant and lay the foundation for a secretive order dedicated to the eradication of Chaos.

ABOUT THIS AUDIO
This 8 CD box set collects the previously released Garro audio dramas Oath of Moment, Sword of Truth, Burden of Duty, Legion of One, Shield of Lies, and Ashes of Fealty, and also includes bonus wallpapers and production scripts.

The Horus Heresy has seen many heroes rise and fall, and few have risen higher than Nathaniel Garro. A scion of the XIV Legion, the Death Guard, Garro came to prominence after his dramatic escape from the battle on Isstvan III that doomed so many Imperial loyalists to death (in the novel ‘Flight of the Eisenstein’). Recruited by Malcador the Sigillite as his Agentia Primus, he became a recruiter for warriors who might just change the course of the Horus Heresy – or the Imperium itself.

And now you can listen to the full first phase of Garro’s journey in ‘Garro: Knight Errant’, an amazing box set featuring no fewer than six audio dramas. Spread across eight discs, these stories chart the trials and tribulations of the former battle-captain as he grows to accept his new role, then begins to wonder if he is destined for something greater still.

Comprising the audio dramas ‘Oath of Moment’, ‘Legion of One’, ‘Sword of Truth’, ‘Shield of Lies’, ‘Burden of Duty’ and ‘Ashes of Fealty’, this unmissable box set also features several panels of gorgeous artwork by Neil Roberts (also available as wallpapers on the bonus disc) along with quotes from each story, and PDFs of every script.

You can pre-order this amazing box set now, and remember that if you’re looking for your last few Service Studs, ‘Garro: Knight Errant’ will get you one.

... Pretty certain I already own all of these already, think £50 is a bit of a saving compared to buying them on their own..? Decent enough set though, great present perhaps ?

http://www.blacklibrary.com/horus-heresy/damnation-of-pythos-paperback.html

THE STORY
In the aftermath of the Dropsite Massacre at Isstvan V, a battered and bloodied force of Iron Hands, Raven Guard and Salamanders regroups on a seemingly insignificant death world. Fending off attacks from all manner of monstrous creatures, the fractious allies find hope in the form of human refugees fleeing from the growing war, and cast adrift upon the tides of the warp. But even as the Space Marines carve out a sanctuary for them in the jungles of Pythos, a darkness gathers that threatens to consume them all…

READ IT BECAUSE
