CNC Workshop release City Ruins

CNC Workshop has added a new terrain item to their online, the City Ruins set.

The ruin corner sections are designed to stack one on top of the other and are designed to work with their existing City Grounds, Urban Grounds and City Levels products.

A set of three corner sections is available for $18 AUS.

I like their stuff a lot; sadly, I still have 2 'not drop pods' and 3 adobe buildings to build...

I'm going to have to be the voice of reason here and say that overall the production value of the kit is pretty damned low. I mean, who actually uses wall-mounted ladders (inside no less) to go to different floors in a building

If the little things can make a kit nice, the big ones can ruin it. Better than lego's I guess, but not by a whole lot.

Well models in Cities of Death use them, for instance. Its the only way an infantry model without extraordinary mean of mobility can gain purchase to new levels.

While there is a distinct lack of visual flavor when compared to COD buildings, it is also a good thing.

People who buy these definatly wish to decorate them to their own tastes, as opposed to being force fed a sense of gothic skulls like GW does.

Both are nice for what they are intended for.

This set happens to trump even GW's COD building modularity by allowing you to not only build what you want, but to be able to do just that every time you set up the buildings is really a nice trick.

Judging by what I already own of CNC Workshop's stuff, I would hazard to guess these are quite sturdy.

WOW!! Those are really nice. I used to scratch build all of my ruined/non-ruined buildings myself. It was very rewarding, but also very time intensive. These will make life MUCH easier. As previously stated, a little customization here & there, and *BAM*, instant modular ruins. Thanks for the heads up on this!

I'm sorry but am i the only one who thinks it would just be cheaper and easier to make these yourself?

I mean its hardly detailed. I could make this kit up using that basic template in about 15 minutes.

Foam card is quite cheap and this is a very simple block building.

Cover it in pva mixed with sand and spray paint it, and there you go.

I think these things are great... The only problem is that they're being built and prepped by relatively skilled scenery makers, so it's not like they pop out of the box looking like the demo pics. These guys are selling milled particle board kits, and while they save you the time of having to cut your own foamcore, and while they'll fit together much nicer than what you'd make, you still have to texture, paint, drybrush, etc. etc.

They're actually pretty easy to assemble/texture/paint.

Gundammecha: I think a lot of scenery/terrain products are 'cheaper and easier' to scratchbuild at home, and there are lots of places (Terragenesis being one of the best) on the web to get ideas.

There are, however, plenty of hobbyists like me who like a pretty tabletop, but attempts to scratchbuild often fall flat, or languish as other projects take over.

I love things like this, the pegasus gothic sets (and the more necromunda-y other sets) etc. because they require very little effort to look good, are (relatively) inexpensive and I don't feel like I'm taking time away from building my armies in order to build really good terrain.

*shrug* we all have our priorities. I knew/know people who make fantastic terrain with just sheet styrene, foam card, spackle, and obtanium, but I"m not one of them, so I'll take what's available to me.

Nice to see that Rakham doesn't have problems with people using their figures. Bet that also helps sales.
