Funny how they've been working on the Age of Olympus stuff for what, 2 years? and now the Spartans come out...

Is it? Do you suppose it's really coincidence?

I'm not picking on you, so bear with me--if you were running a company, wouldn't you make release decisions that would most benefit your sales? I mean, you don't sell snow shovels in summer, or grass seed in december, right?

So we're to fault Croc games for knowing about the 300 release date, happening to have Spartans in the works, and timing those events?

Sounds like sound business strategy to me.

If they were timing them in this fashion, surely these Spartans would be released now, rather than in 2 months time when interest in the movie has waned...?

Now I want a giant Xerxes to lead a Slaanesh horde.

I'd cry fowl if they were purely based on the movie Spartans, but at least these guys are wearing armor, so they're somewhat more historically accurate.

Bah.  They should naked, in sandals and capes, with their Spartan junk waving in the breeze, just as Miller intended.  (Personally, the only flaw I detected in the movie was those Spartan hotpants Leo and his boyz were wearing.)

Artizan Designs is also releasing some Greek Hoplites and some Persians pretty soon as well...

wish they would have given a view of the non-shield side as well. looks like the spartan shields could become a conversion piece if they are separate.

There's a ton of 25mm/28mm Greek hoplite figures available already. It's one of the more popular periods of ancients.

None of them is wearing leather Speedos (I haven't looked closely.)

The key flaw in the movie was not pronoucing the name of the main character correctly.

Chris FitzPatrick has posted more information on the Spartans on the Croc forums.  Seems he's planning on weekly previews of the Olympus range.

I don't know why some of you guys complain. "300" was awesome and I'm pretty sure it's our (I'm 21 for you older guys, you guys had Rambo) generation's Man Movie. "Kill Bill" had a woman, "Transporter" was OK but swords beat guns anyday, and "Gladiator" had a sappy political/romance thing. "300" had awesome nudie scenes, some hot babes, a barbecued rhino, and lots of Manly(tm) stuff.

Anyway, I want a Leonidas without armor so I can see his chest ripple with manliness.  Also, the sheer masculinity of 300 manly men all killing stuff makes me feel insecure about my lack of manliness.

They're both tyrants...

But I don't think the historical Xerxes wielded decorative tiki torches in each hand.

The Crocodile Spartans have been done for something like 2 years? Folks who've been to the Croc booth as some conventions bought them a year or more ago. As no production shots from the movie were available then, I'm pretty sure they were not based on the movie. Besides, the armor for the movie is not the same as what was presented in the way of props to sell the movie idea to Warner Bros. Coincidentally, the props that were used to sell the movie ended up making their way into the History channel special on the Spartans.

Not to say that Croc won't make any more Spartans or even Persians due to the movie though. Chris always has the right to become sidetracked mid-project(it's a disease many art types suffer from ). An Alcibides was sculpted, among other things for the Wargods of Olympus range.

Just saw some upcoming Spartan artwork from Crocodile. Not sure when it will be unleashed, but if the art doesn't make you want to collect Spartans, then nothing will. Des Hanlesy surely has reached a new plateau in painting badassedness!!! There is one specific painting that I want a print of as soon as it is available. I will give no specific details of anything as I think that robs the folks who do all of the work of their moment to bask in the praise of their fans(plus I don't have any sort of permission to reveal anything either), so I'll just say the art is of "Spartans fighting different things". You will NOT be dissapointed.
