I'm using Daemon Hunters as Allies in my DA Army. Now I originally wanted the codex to use the Grey Knights Grand Master, but after looking through it I liked the Assasins. except you have to take an Inquisitor Lord as your Daemon Hunter HQ to get it. I've been trying this out and it works decently but what do you guys think? Is it better to use a GK Grand Master with a retinue or a Inquisitor Lord to get the Assasin?

I believe there is a rules loophole that allows you to take a Witch Hunter Elite Inquisitor to allow a Daemon Hunter Elite Assassin. Which then allows you to take a Grey Knight Grand Master in the HQ slot. If you didn't want to use the loophole and just pick one, I suppose a shooty Inquisitor Lord and retinue plus assassin gives you more bang for the buck. Although I really do like the Grand Master. Tough call.

How many points are you going to use for your allies? The grand master+bodyguard is far far more expensive than the assassian + min inquizitor.
Also depends on who you are facing. Against shooty armies the assassian is best, against assult armies I would go with the master. Against tank armies neither are very good.

Forget the Assasin/Iquisitor. The best Daemon Hunter allies you can get are Storm Troopers in Chimera's. They really make a shooty spacemarine list, uber shooty.
If you must though... I would go Inquisitory w/ shooty retinue.
Daemon Hunters w/ Dark Angels? Your Dark Green friends better watch their back.

With a Dark Angels army, your best ally is probably an Inq Lord + assassin. I'm pretty negative on taking GKs as allies for the simple fact that as soon as you put that GK on the table, any chaos player with daemons gets sustained attack for all daemon squads. A Daemonhunter army can ususally deal with that. Most other armies can't.

The recycled units come on from a table edge though. Not terrible, but they have to walk or ride the Wedway People Mover (or whatever). I don't think it's going to break a shooty army.

Well I have a Inter. Chaplin with an assault squad, 10 GK, one Death Wing Squad, 6 Bikes, an Attack Bike, and Two 5 man squads with pw and pg. I used the shooty Iq Lord with Psycannon, Targeter, Emp. Tarot. Etc. And then a Cullidus or what ever Assasin and powned tau.
I need more fire support. With one 10 man Assault and Chaplin, 10 Grey Knights, and a Deathwing Squad of 3 Lightining Claws, Hammer, and Assault Cannon...I think that's enough assault. So should I drop the Teleporting GKs?

Oh and are you sure you can use Witch Hunter's Inquisitor and then a Assasin? I was told that you can only use With Hunters of Daemon hunters as allies, not both.
And methoderik, from what I read in the Daemon Hunters codex you can't use Stormtroopers as Troops if they're being the allies of anything, otherwise I would.

Witch Hunters allow you to use assassins with an elite inquisitor (all assassins are the same in both books) but you cant have two elites choices from witch hunters in an allied force. Since you can use both witch hunter and deamon hunter allies in the same army, so long as adepta sororitas and grey knights dont work together, you can use a deamon hunter elite inquisitor (if they have them I dont know) and use a witchhunter assassin. That would save you a few points, but the elite inquisitor I know isnt worth the points if you have an aggressive spacemarine army.

As I understand it,you can use both 'dex's,but expect extreme complaints about it. I play Demonhunters a lot,but I've actually found straight Grey Knights work best for me. I'll throw I-L Coteaz and an Assasin out there in 2500 point games, but that's about it. Personally,I would just take the Grand Master and a nice, big retinue for him, especially if the list is for tourney play. That unit should be able to walk over a cheesed out Demon Prince or a few zilla nids without too much problem. The GK Termies are ridiculously good for their points, even if they don't get Assault Cannons, and the Grand Master's ability to pop a monstrous creature with his Nemesis Force Weapon is very useful. Assasins are usually good for the points cost(I prefer to use the Callidus),but it's not worth it to me to ram an Inquisitor into a list just to be able to take one unless I was going to put one in already. Basically, don't take an Inquisitor just so you can take an Assasin.

I thought in the Deamon Hunters codex you weren't allowed to field GK and SM in the same army??? If you could I would use my Deathwing Terminator squads alongside my GK terminator squads and have a wail of a time!

The way it works is that if you are building a Demonhunters army, you cannot include both Grey Knights and allied Space Marine units. However,if you are building a Space Marine,or any other Imperium list for that matter, you can ally whatever Demonhunter units you want without that restriction.

If the parent list (the list from which you have an hq and two troops choices) is Space Marines or IG, then you can take both DH and WH allies including Grey Knights and SoBs. The latest printings of each codex make this clear.

I use a GK Grand Master and 7 GK terminators as allies in my lysander wing they deep strike with the rest of the terminators and I think they are better balanced than assault terminators as they can still lay down a good amount of fire I have had great success with them as an 8 man unit they will out assault most enemy's they have faced but in smaller unit sizes I have had problems with them just getting shot to hell

Barring an FAQ I don't know about, you CAN take your Temple Assasin from one codex and your mandatory =I= from the other. My bias'd be WH Culexus + DH elite-level =I= with the Emperor's Tarot, a stool and a card table, maybe a psycannon if you feel like it.

If you want a cheapo inquisitor that's a pretty good route. I'd throw in the psycannon, tarot, and 2 mystics to taste. Playing IG and having a demolisher I just stand the inquisitor right next to the demolisher and drop pie plates on anyone who feels like deep striking nearby. For assassins they're all pretty pricey but callidus and culexus are the best. Vindicare doesnt get enough shots and the crazy assaulty psycho usually gets shot up too fast to be useful.

If your going up against daemons then take an inquistor with sanctuary hide you awesome shooty units within 3" of him and as long as he does nothing until any threat is eradicted guys with big guns are safe to shoot at whatever daemons they want and the daemons can't do anything about it.

You cannot field an Inquisitor from one Codex and an Assassin from the other. See the latest GW FAQs. If you want to have an Assassin allied to your force, you must take an Inquisitor Lord.
