Hey Guys,

So here's the next troll in my super-blue skin troll warband, the Axer. There are a couple of places I don't really like on him (his bracers for one I think are too bright, not enough shading), but overall I think he came out looking pretty decent. The armor was painted in an NMM look so I could try and teach myself how to do it. There was definitely a lot of trial and error on this guy. Those that have been following my painting progress might remember that I tried doing some NMM work on my Impaler about a month or so back.

I think I've definitely gotten better at the technique now. I know he's really "clean" looking, but I'm just too scared to experiment with rusting/dirt on the NMM paint that I spent so long to do. If anyone has any tips on how to do this in a NMM look I'd love to hear from you!

Anyway, let me know what you all think. Thanks!

Yoor Speeshawl too Gawd!

Nice you are getting the hang of NMM, the only thing I could critisize is the bright highlights on the troll.

Only now do I realize how much I prefer Pete Haines' "misprints" to Gav Thorpe's "brainfarts." :Abadabadoobaddon

Nice troll.

I would suggest shading the troll's skin a little ( or at least the face )

One very simple way to enhance your current NMM would be to add rust using GW Dark Flesh with an ultra dilluted wash ( in 2-3 passes waiting for the "juice" to dry before starting on the next coat )

I would also paint the troll-in-a-bag another color, or very pale blue to make him contrast a little more with the bulky troll.

Oh, and finish the base

Keep up the good work!
I was tempted to paint a trollkin after seeing my friend's model, but yours convinced me to do it so I'll probably have a Pirate troll to show in a couple of weeks ( The privateer with a harpoon gun...)...

Looks good. The NMM is good, it just needs a touch of something around the spikes on the forearm to make them stand out better.

Also the mouth is almost a little lost in the picture. I'm not sure if its the picture or the model (hard to tell with pics.)

Impressive over all. I'd like to see it pictured with terrain to see how it looks there. The white background can cause overly critical judgments.

Thanks for the comments all!

Yea, I retouched the mouth area so it's a little more distinct now...it was a bit too washed out. I'll probably be going back and retouch him a bit more once I've finished up my other units/models first. The spikes could definitely use some more definition...I think the bracer is a bit too "white." I just feel bad playing with primed only models, so I want to try and get these guys 90-95% done and go back and fix any problems up later.

Once they're all done, I'll try and post another pic of them on terrain or with a softer background than the white/black (my toaster oven in my kitchen ).
