Finally got to try out my Sea Dogs tonight against a Skarre themed Cryx list. What a fun army! We played three games; I took the same list each time just to get feel for it. Shae Mariner Mariner 10 Sea Dogs w/ Walls attached Rockbottom Grogspar Killingsworth Hawk 500pts on the nose. What a breath of fresh air to play a Merc list with some Synergy in it! Loading up an AD unit of Sea Dogs with +1 to go first was AWESOME! With Rockbottom chucking sacks of money at them to give them tough, Hawks hawt bod making them fearless and the fear of the Doc going to work on them improving their save... these guys were nigh unkillable! Couple that with Grogs special rules keeping them on their feet most of the time when they made their tough rolls and these guys truly made their points back. I'm actually considering dropping a Mariner for another unit and a light jack instead. Some thoughts; Storm Rager + Hawk + anything in line of sight = dead. Couple that with a +5 charge from Shae and she can nip right through lines to make the kill. Game three I even managed to feat her into Skarre's rear arc after putting Rager on her. Mat 11! Messy! The feat is a small boost; but because it ignores free strikes and can happen at the beginning of the turn it can really make a difference. Nipping into that rear arc is badass! The Mariner is a touch expensive for what it can do. Thresher is okay; but with a Mat of 5 and being unable to fire its cannon without Sea Dogs around.... a bit restricted. The nice bits are the sea legs, lash (for when Grogspar is too far away) and a VERY decent range and POW on the gun. I think taking two might have been a bit much as Shae is a bit focus hungry himself and is best used SUPPORTING the rest of the army as opposed to feeding focus. the Doc and Rockbottom are a perfect pair for the rear lines. Twice bonejacks or Satyxis got in behind me and they admirably tied them up or just plain shot them/flamed them/knifed them. Anyway; these guys will be my painting project for the next few weeks. I think we might actually build a little dock table to go with them. I've got Pirate fever! I was worried they would play like my Magnus or Gorten army; feeling a bit restrictive. I certainly feel that way about the list selection using the Talion charter... but it's a fun army to play with (and certainly complements itself all around... it was designed to add up to 500pts with one of everything!).

I'm looking forward to the fact that Grogspar can potentially nerf Sorscha's feat.

Winning isn't important. It's the taking apart that counts! |

If he's alive. Sadly he's on a large base; so he's widowmaker food most likely against Khador unless I hide him behind a Jack. All in all though, a fun list!

Is it 500 pts with every different unit? (i.e. the light jack) Because youre not using the light jack in the list. I havent gotten the models yet, so I dont know how it all adds up. Did the rules for them get released in issue #12, or is it just in the blisters?

All Rules are in No Quarter #12, and the cards are in the blisters/boxes.
Sometime in the future, Privateer Press will probably include all the rules they've previewed in No Quarter along with the rest of whatever crazy expansion they came up in an expansion book. For instance, months before they released the expansion Superiority they put the rules for a bunch of units and warjacks in No Quarter and released the models. Then, when Superiority was released all those rules were in the book in addition to all this crazy stuff no one had even thought of.
I like the expansion system. The only problem is that even after they release the book they haven't necessarily caught up on the miniatures release, so you're waiting months for a model that you know the rules for but can only proxy.
Hellfury, if you wanted to proxy, you could buy No Quarter #12, and then the round bases from Privateer Press (not sure if they're the manufacturer or not. Prime: Remix would explain the basic rules and you'd be off and running.

The Cannon and Buckaneer basically add up to the cost of my extra Mariner, making it just under 500pts with one of everything.
