Subject: Question in regards to Bike Squadron with attached Landspeeder

A situation came up recently. A Dark Angel player is running a Bike Squadron of 6 bikes with an attached Landspeeder Tornado. The question is if the Landspeeder Tornado can be targeted since it's a vehicle or can the bike squadron allocate hits any way the player wants like normal distribution of hits?

Read page 27 of the DA codex.
The Bikes and Lanspeeder are deployed at the same time but then operate independently during the game. Just like an Imperial Guard platoon.

Thanks Yak,
Wow, that's a great way for Dark Angels to run a bunch of individual Landspeeder Tornados.

not really because you have to take a full 6 man bike squad and an attached attack bike to get the tornado.....thats over 300 points a pop IIRC at 1850 the most you will get is 4 full bike units (thats 4 speeders) when you can just take 3 seperate ones from the fast attack slot

I think it was once you have the 6 bikes you can add a landspeeder and/or an attack bike to them. at 1500 points your going to end up with basicly is 4 3 man bike squads set for hand to hand 4 3 man bike squads with 2 special weapons ( melta guns) each 4 tornados, a master of the ravenwing flying landraider, and maybe an attack bike or two ( might be 4 don;t have the actually book or list with me).

Narlix is correct. At 3 bikes you MAY add an attack bike that operates separately. At 6 bikes you MAY also add a Landspeeder Tornado.
And it is a good way to get more Landspeeder Tornados in your force if you run a Ravenwing force.

not really all that great now. in the old rules when the tornado was all you could take in a RW army i had 10(with the masters speeder) that always graced the table along with 17 bikes. now you have to take 18 bikes just to get 4+ sammy and with the points hikes that about max's your list. the thing people forget when they start going gaga over taking speeders as support squads and attached to bike squads is how much you can squeeze into a legal list. which isn't much given the new rules unless you want to take comparatively worse standard speeders enmass and max your support squads at 5 each. and now with both the jink and skilled rider gone bikes have become something of a liability in a pure RW force.

I don't quite understand your post. I can take 2 bike squads as Troops, attach 2 landspeeders, put 3 more in fast Attack and take Sammael in Speeder. I think that clocks in under 1500 points and has 6 assault cannons with extra room for preds, more bikes, attack bikes, and goodies for the bike squads.

oz man you have to take 6 bikes per squad to get the attached speeder ie you have to spend lots of points now on the weaker units to get something decent you used to just get more of for less points. which means you can squeeze less into a tournament sized list. at 1850(as per the previous tournament list level) my old RW has double the possible firepower as a pure force than any list you can make of pure RW with the new dex. a normal full bike squad that allows you to take a speeder clocks in at over 300 points. you take 4 of those without the attack bike(which is just dumb) and sammael and your pretty much at tourney level. the concept may sound cool but the reality is-less firepower, less really good units for alot more points.

Ozy said "And it is a good way to get more Landspeeder Tornados in your force if you run a Ravenwing force." Is any part of this statement false? Surely not! Given that you run an RWing force, attaching LSTs to bike squadrons is a good way to squeeze in more LSTs than you would otherwise be able to. Of what relevance is the fact that you used to be able to field a supposedly more powerful RWing than you currently can?
