Greetings all,

I'm writing because of the confluence of two seemingly unconnected events in my life: 1) I want to get back into the hobby after being in exile since 2nd edition and 2) I'm moving to Orlando, Florida in about three days.  I wanted to know if anyone on dakka was from the Orlando area and, if so, whats the gaming community like there.  So if anyone could help me with the answers to these questions, I would be eternally in your debt!

 

1.  Whats the general vibe of the community?  Tournament heavy or pick-up games?  Veteran gamers or hordes of 11-year olds vainly attempting to pass off crudely assembled white-metal abominations as the Emperor's Finest?

2.  I think 40k is pretty big here, as I have seen a large number of comics and games shops in the area.  But what about Fantasy Battles, or BFG?

3.  Beyond GW, is there a historical war gaming scened (even FOW would be a nice break)?  Or even a non-GW presence (specifically B5:ACTA, Warmachine, or Confrontation).

We've got all sorts of players / games in Orlando so you'll likely be able to find whatever you are looking for.

Fantasy battles has a healthy following but I'm not sure about BFG...some players still do though.

Lots of warmachine & Hordes (I'm a pressganger) as well as FOW......sounds like you are going to have some choices.
