So I'm a pretty Avid IG player, and in the past I have owned upwards of 20K worth of Chaos Space Marines, so I can appreciate that this will take awhile to amass.  Basically, what I'm looking for is any commentary on what you think a thematically realistic balance might be for an Imperial Army.  Here's what I have.

High Commander from WD 306

2 Infantry Companies (1 Command HQ, 3 Platoons of 3 Squads Each)

1 Mechanised Grenadier Company (Mechanised Regiment, 1 Command HQ, 3 Platoons of 2 Squads each, and 3 Grendiers Squads)

2 Heavy Weapons Companies (1 Command HQ, 3 Heavy Weapons Platoons Each)

1 Rough Rider Company (1 Mounted Command HQ with Senior Officer, 3 Mounted Command HQs with Junior Officers, and 9 10-man Rough Rider Units - Check the proposed rules section for one guys excellent Proposed Datasheet on this)

1 Emperor's Talon Recon Company (Command Sentinel, 3 Sentinel Squads, 1 Sentinel Support Squad, all Full)

1 Emperor's Fist Tank Company (Vanquisher Command, 2 LRBT Squads, 1 Demolisher Squad)

1 Super Heavy tank Company (2 Baneblades, 1 with Commander, plus a Macharius with the Vulcan Mega-Bolters)

1 Reaver Titan

2 Artillery Batteries (Basilisks and Griffons)

1 Anti-Aircraft Battery (Hydras)

(I forgot this in the original posting)

1 Squadron of 5 Thunderbolts

1 Bomber Wing of 2 Marauder Bombers

2 Squads of Hellhounds

2 Space Marine Tactical Squads led by a Veteran Sergeant (Though if I could, I'd WAY rather have one squad of movie Space Marines from WD300 for flavor and Detachment size consistency).

Total is about 25,000 points if I use the movie Space Marines.  Otherwise it is Closer to 24,000.  I based this on a guess that the Reaver will be about 1,500, since the Warlord is 2,500 and a Warhound is 750.  Just my guess.

So, realistic to the universe?  I wanted to make sure there was enough infantry.  Some of the Platoon Squads may become Veteran Squads, or even Veteran Platoons (3 Vet Squads plus a Command HQ with a Junior Officer).  Let me know what you think, or what you would do for such a sizeable force.

BOLS has been doing a series of data sheets - including the Reaver. They agree that 1500 is about the right points cost.

I think movie marine rules are best NOT used with Apoc. There is enough going on without super marines taking down titans.

Overall - the list seems to be a good match of fluff vs. game play. You might want to add more infantry, but I don't know where there would be space to put them on the table/floor!

But damn would I love to try. See, what I like about movie marines is that they are SO fluffy. They do what all the stories have marines doing. And honestly, I can totally picture one marine with a missile launcher taking out a titan. The high strength represents his innate awesomeness as the Emperor's elite!

Or yeah, I could just have my small marine detachment. See, that's about how rare I figure marines should be. 20 of them in an army of 2,000
