I just love seeing so many models. Orks coming back to the game and bringing a "new" dynamic back to
40k. I can't wait to see you stuff all those bodies down lascannon spammers throats.
Although I think if orks start performing as well as I think they are going to, that is going to put a little bit of a damper on my 175 model guard army. the heavy bolters that everyone is going to start taking to fight you off is gonna chew me up
I'd be happy anyway. Having more people play with an under-represented 'meta-type' of army can only make the tourney environment more healthy and competitive. Although
TOs are going to have to put some SERIOUS thought into increasing the time limit on games up to at least 2.5 hours.
On your concerns... Most of the skimmers you'll have problems with aren't that threatening to you. Hammerheads can wreck you, but falcons can't really output enough shots to bring down your big units, speeders you can pop with shootas and rokkits, and anything else is a transport. Who the hell is gonna get out of their transport with that many greenskins on the table? Mobile armies are going to move better than you, but just get to the objectives. Either they have to eventually get to them also, or you get even more bonus
VPs as they futilely try to pick away at your big units.
I would probably run 4 units of 30 rather than 6 units of 20. But at 1k points i dunno, maybe 20 is a safe number, but 1k points could probably kill 12-14 orks very easily each turn. Which would make you really vulnerable to morale.
btw, i think this list would be well beyond semi-competitive. I think unless your opponent was prepared for this, both mentally and with his list, you are going to seem completely unbeatable.
Please come back and tell us how its going. Our gaming group is going to help a member put together a massive horde of orks. I'm confident that it will be good, but I'm enjoying reading all of the batreps so far from footsloggers.
