Hi everyone!
Some of you might have seen my ConstructiCrons, a themed Necron Combat Patrol I created, based somewhat on the Transformer franchise. After finishing my 400 points-force I realised I wanted to do more, and so the idea for the CombatiCrons was born. Below you’ll find both, now combined into a 1000 point army. You will also find two short pieces of back story for them. Eventually it will be increased to 1500 points with the inclusion of Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp (Heavy Destroyers) and UniCron (the Deceiver.) I might have to convert the Ark (a Monolith) mentioned in the background as well, even though it will probably not be used. Hopefully this might inspire someone else to make themed Necrons, and show that they don’t need to be boring as an army
(Note; the painting was done extremely fast and simple since I wanted to focus on the conversions, and to get them done for playing. Hence the table-top quality.)

The background story for the ConstructiCrons:

It was in the blasted city of Antioch Prime that Imperial forces first encountered the deconstructing rearguard of the Necron forces, nicknamed ’ConstructiCrons’ by soldiers of the Imperial Guard. The Necron assault on Antioch Prime had driven the Imperial soldiers out of the city, but during the conflict the 14th squad of Antiochian Dragoons, under the command of sergeant Rawns, was trapped under a collapsing building. Rawns and his men spent six days digging their way out of the rubble, and when they emerged the found themselves surrounded by weaponless Necron constructs, metallic workers with the sole purpose of tearing down what was left of the city and turning it into raw resources for the Necron army. Without hesitation Rawns led the attack on the defenceless Necrons and easily defeated them. Surpringsingly, the loss of their resource gatherers affected the main Necron force more than anyone could ever have imagined. A first weakness had been discovered in the terrifying undead soldiers.
This discovery led to a series of Imperial victories against the Necrons, but as it turned out, joy was to be short-lived. On Tesra, Rawns, now promoted to major, led an all-out-attack on the Necron deconstructors behind enemy lines. To the attackers horrifying discovery, the ConstructiCrons suddenly fought back. Carrying short-barreled gauss rifles and wielding their very tools as cruel close-combat weapons, the Necrons cut down the human attackers as mere wheat. Rawns himself was torn limb from limb by a specially modified Tomb Spyder, seemingly the leader of the Necron work party. Only a few humans survived to tell the tale of the terrifying ConstructiCrons. Since then, that very same unit of weapon-wielding deconstructors have been encountered where the fighting is thickest, moving in behind the main Necron force, tearing down and processing buildings and straggling survivors alike.

And the story behind the CombatiCrons and the Ark:

-=I=- Inquisitorial Report concerning Necron activity in the Phornosa Sector -=I=-

Greetings Lord Inquisitor Bren of the Ordo Xenos.
It is with growing concern that I report that my continued investigation of the Necrons nicknamed “ConstructiCrons” has finally borne fruit. I managed to triangulate the ConstructiCron activity in the sector, and reached the conclusion that the Necron force was using the planet Wothstone as their staging base. Further investigations of the planet confirmed my suspicions, but at the same time they revealed a much more dire threat. It would appear that the ConstructiCrons have been building a fortress on Wothstone (cross-reference: #35593 The Ark.) I personally led a strike-team of Inquisitorial Storm Troopers and inducted guardsmen from the Phool IXth regiment in an attack on the Necron base, but was horrified to discover that the fortress itself fought back against us. Even worse, from inside the main building came a new kind of Necrons never before encountered. They carried themselves on three mechanical, spider-like legs, and their advanced targeting heads tracked our soldiers with ease. Supporting them were flying mechanisms carrying heavy weaponry, whom seemed to find joy in swooping down and picking off isolated guardsmen (receivers note; The Necrons have certainly never displayed feelings before, and this is clearly an exaggeration on the observers part.) Needless to say, my strike-team was butchered.
I have given the new kind of Necrons the reference name CombatiCrons, du to their increased combat abilities. As the surviving guardsmen are calling the flying Necrons PredaCrons, after their predatory behaviour, I will myself refer to them as such in my further reports.
As the situation stands right now, I urgently recommend you to immediately dispatch a team of Death Watch operatives to destroy the Ark, lest the Necrons will be able to gather in force.

Man, that is just crazy. I love it. Your Tomb Spider looks alot like the flying Sentinel things from the Matrix.

I, personally, would love to see you expand on them some more to show us what else you can come up with.

Keep it up. And show us more!

Some really really solid conversions here, definitely the most interesting 'cron army I've seen. And that's totally ignoring the whole DeceptiCron thing going on

Solid painting on top of the great conversions too. The destroyers with missiles and flayed one claws are my fav I think, nice take on such a (usually) repetitive unit.

If you don't mind my asking I'd love to know how much the bits for these converted models cost?
Did you already have all of this stuff around or was it all ordered?

This is kinda scary since i was just watching the Transformers movie when i saw this thread.

Some incredible things you have there and i love your story behind them. A very nice and continous theme (also including the red debris on the bases).
Also, the fact that every model has a name just makes it that much more fun!
The Divebomb guy is my favorite. Very cool army and im looking forward to seeing more!

Nice take on 'Crons. They're always so boring but these are fun and your fluff is interesting.

Also Ramjet and Thruster just sound sorta....

Outstanding conversions. Quite possible the only crons with character I've ever seen.

On a side note, I can't help the feeling that those scarabs are a freeze-frame from a stop-motion film-- if that makes sense.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism." -Hermann Goering (high ranking Nazi)

Definitely the most visually gripping necrons I've seen, great work! I especially like the use of the old necromunda bits. I'm interested to see your take on the monolith. Would you convert the existing cubist nightmare, or would it be more of a scratch build?

Kudos!

Thanks a lot everyone! These kind of responses definately keeps me inspired and makes me want to do more, so those longing for more CombatiCrons, they will come.

Most of the stuff was ordered. As such, I don't really want to think about what the total army cost might be. I remember figuring out that the first Combat Patrol (only the CombatiCrons) would cost me 1800 swedish crowns (somewhere around £140) to make. But just guessing, I would say that the army cost so far might be somewhere around £300.

First, thanks!
And Ramjet is actually named after one of the most silly Transformer characters. Or the character ain't silly, just the concept behind him. He's a jet plane. That rams things. Now, I'm no expert on jet planes, but I know I wouldn't ram anything if I were in/were one. But anyway, this also explains his front ram/dozer blade.
(The Transformer Broadside on the other hand takes silly to a whole new level. He can transform into an... aircraft carrier. A 1 kilometer long aircraft carrier. His transformation must be so useful in a desert battle. Well, in almost all locations actually.)

Again, thanks a lot!
I'm thinking of doing a Monolith that's kind of reminiscent of the second Death Star, meaning, a not quite finished Monolith (something for the ConstructiCrons to work on), but still with full fighting potential. So then it would be cubish, but at least one corner of it would be girders and stuff (not very true to the background of living metal, but sometimes you need to exploit your artistic freedom.)

Really interesting and well executed conversions. Not sure the whole Decepticon thing is my style (actually...it's not) but I can appreciate their aesthetic value, and how hard it is to make Necrons interesting.

Of course! If you mash them together a bit. And then... uhm. Okay, no.

Wow, I hadn't even thought of Trypticon. Or Scorponok for that matter. A giant, mechanical, murdering vehicle/scorpion. Alas, there's already the Brass Scorpion of Khorne. But GW haven't made the gigantic, mechanical city/dinosaur... yet.
