Since I'm pretty new and didn't have sufficient numbers we went with a 1200 point game. Mission was rolled as an Alpha Take and Hold. Dead center was right between the two buildings and sufficient terrain meant fighting was likely to be fairly close. My list was a medium ranged list, opposing was a Close Combat Marine List. I won roll for deployment and choose to deploy in the south (compass directions are in reference to my position). I won roll for initiative and chose to move second. This was my first game of 40k and my opponent hasn't played in a long time since the previous edition and this was his first game in a long time so he was very out of shape with the rules

My list as it stood:
1x Necron Lord w/veil and res orb
14x Warriors
14x Warriors
4x Scarabs w/ disruption fields
3x Scarabs w/ disruption fields
3x Destroyers
1x Monolith

Opponents List (As best I remember)
5x Marines w/ sergeant, tons of power weapons
Rhino Transport
5x Marines w/Sergeant, tons of power weapons
Rhino Transport
4x Terminators Loaded with a ton of weapons
Crusader Transport w/ twin link lascannons
4x Assault Marines
6x Scout Marines

Deployment
His deployment was mainly in the north east with the two rhino transports nearer to the center, the crusader was near the corner, assault were just west of center and the scouts were in the far north west corner.

My deployment was spread out with the majority of it in the south and south west, a scarab and destroyer squad covered the south east, the warriors were just a bit east and west of center with the lord dead center. The monolith was south west and the scarabs alongside it.

Cover was pretty dense, all of the terrain that was placed was considered forests and the walls of the two buildings were high enough that we considered them blocking all line of sight (this really only affected the monolith) The buildings were some pretty nice models with two walls destroyed and we had them placed so they looked almost like opposing walls of the same structure. No special rules or scenarios beyond the basic ones.

Turn 1 Marines:
Everybody moves south.

Turn 1 Necrons:
Scarabs turboboost up into cover and prep to go after the crusader, the destroyers swing wide south and fire at the crusader and despite a couple of hits don't do anything at all. The western scarabs turbo boost up into cover along the far west to head off the scouts. The monolith slides up north west and fires the particle whip at the assault Marines, it scatters though and drops right between the marines and the nearby rhino doing nothing. western warriors move north along the western flank of the building and the eastern slide further east and north, the lord also shifts east with the warriors. Nothing else is in range yet so nothing more happens.

Turn 2 Marines:
The scouts move south, the assault marines move south quickly and hug the building wall for cover. Both rhinos run south along the edge of the building. The crusader takes a pot shot at the scarabs who left one base out too far and causes two wounds to it.

Turn 2 Necrons:
The warriors on the west move along the building side and the warriors in the east slide out from behind the building and a few of them start to move into the forest, the lord also moves with them. The western scarabs run up north some more and assault the scouts but they do not really do much and the scouts manage to inflict 1 wound on the scarabs. The eastern scarabs run out and assault the crusader but their attack too is futile, the destroyers attempt again to take down the crusader and its cargo of terminators but evidently stasis has left them lacking. Lacking targets the monolith moves north.

Turn 3 Marines:
The scouts fight the scarabs and take out one of the bases entirely. The assault marines stay put (he later told me they were there to protect the center) out of sight of the monolith. The crusader tank shocks the scarabs in front, the one with only 1 wound left tries and death or glory and ends up quite gory, it then continues forward stopping before the destroyers and the terminators jump out guns blazing, two of the destroyers are blown away and the following assault finished off the last one who failed to make 6 armor saves. Both rhinos pulled up alongside the building and disembarked their troops who opened fire on the warriors killing three.

Turn 3 Necrons:
Very good WBB rolls brought back 2 of the downed warriors. The scarabs fighting the scouts continued their assault and were wiped out; the scarabs on the crusader assaulted the crusader again and again did nothing to it. I then decided to change the front, the lord veiled with the eastern warriors and reappeared 8 inches from the surprised assault marines behind the building, full rapid fire managed to kill the entire squad in one barrage. Eastern warriors tightened up their ranks and moved south but still behind the building. The monolith slipped far enough north that it took a shot at the disembarked Marines but it scattered slightly and landed right between the two, it damaged their paint jobs but didn't hurt them, the three marines standing right in between the rhinos didn't fare so well and were killed.

Turn 4 Marines:
The crusader turned in place and fired the lascannon at the lords group killing two more necrons. The terminators moved west a bit and due to the forests didn't have anything to fire at. Both squads of marines jumped back into their rhinos and both rhinos ran around to the southern side of the building to get out of the monoliths LOS and run down the western warriors. The scouts cleared the forest and fired a few shots at the western warriors taking one out in the back.

Turn 4 Necrons:
This round really hurt the marines badly. Three warriors stood back up with their WBB rolls. The Monolith moved south and took a shot at the scouts and managed even with a scatter to kill one of them. The western warriors walked out in full phalanx in front of the rhinos and opened fire, had multiple glances from their gauss weapons and rolled a destroyed result, two marines died in the explosion. The lord teleported south alongside the other warriors, scattered and ended up an inch from the table edge, his squad of warriors opened up and also glanced and got a destroyed result on the second rhino killing only 1 marine. The scarabs assaulted the crusader again, but this time the got a glance from their disruption fields and again rolled a destroyed result!

Turn 5 Marines:
Badly hurt the marines didn't have much choice here, the marines were all pinned, the terminators began to hoof it and fired a few weapons at the lords group killing one since they had lost their crusader. The scouts setup and sniped one more warrior from the eastern group.

Turn 5 Necrons:
The scarabs fresh off of their crusader kill ran over and assaulted the terminators who just turned around and squished them without slowing down. The warriors reformed into phalanxes and concentrated fire on the southern rhino; it took both groups of warriors and the lord to kill the one marine squad. The monolith moved south west again and fired at the Marines but only managed to kill one.

Turn 6 Marines:
The scouts continued to snipe and got one. The terminators were running but too far away to do anything, they tried to nail the monolith with some heavy weapons of theirs but weren't able to damage it. The marines jumped into the assault against the eastern warriors and put down 4 of them.

Turn 6 Necrons:
End game, 1 WBB roll, The eastern warriors teleported through the monolith and recovered two more and now were ready to fire on the marines again, the Lord veiled with a warrior group of 13 into the center to claim the objective. Closest Marine squad was about 10 inches away and the fire coming from the warriors was probably going to make them non-scoring anyway. We called the game at this point as a pretty solid win for the Necrons.

I had a lot of luck on this battle, good WBB rolls and an incredible round of shooting taking out all three transports and stranding the terminators who never were able to get close to anything after that.

I would seriously take a look at the marine codex and get familiar with your enemy and have him get spun up as well, not sure if he meant it or not but when you say that many power weapons in a tac squad unless they where vets something is terribly wrong with his army. That is my only concern. Congrats on the win though!

Yeah, the Marine army is whacked... Assualt Squads have to be 5 man minimum. A tac squad cannot have more then 1 power weapon. They can be kitted to have Pistol and Close Combat weapons, but only the Veteran Sgt can take a power weapon or power fist.

There was no HQ in that list, and his terminator squad was to small as well. His army was highly illegal. Intentional or not, I'd suggest you both spend some time sitting down and going over the Marine codex a bit more.
