Well I collect Tyranids and was thinking of doing a combat army so here is the fluff behind it. This hive fleet has crashed into a quadrant of space where the imperium hasn't settled so the army has lots of claws because it hasn't found guns, there are no psychic powers except for synapse and the only units fielded are tyrants, warriors, lictors, horomagaunts, rippers, raveners, pretty much anything that isn't a genestealer, biovore or termagaunt. With the ever expanding way of life the imperium has the Hive Fleet dubbed "Volatilis" has been discovered and a new wave of terror has swept over the imperium. The Fleet is a very primitive one and the colour scheme is one used to camoflage the creature into the background foilage before the attack.

Hope you guys liked it

since i started this thread i suppose i should put in my share

all right, in 2.300.777.M41 during the s. crusade, the war council of Vienna gathered for their anual military and tax reassessment. everything was peachy, untill Lord Strause of the province Rien voted against sending tributes and men for the imperial army, soon half the war council was on Strauses side, and make a long story short they left the emperors grace. so now the planet is plunged into a massive civil war, with both imperial and chaos army desending on the planet.

for the succetionists i use the latd with blood pact rules to represent the elite fighting units, and muties represnt the working population rising up

the guard is pretty self explanitory

Spreading the word of the Turtle Pie

Waaagh! 'Eadsmasha.

Eadsmasha rose to power when he challenged his tribes leader, Warboss Gutrip. Warboss Gutrip and Eadsmasha fought for many hours, until Eadsmasha dropped his guard. Gutrip used his power klaw to snip off both of Eadsmasha's arms. Ignoring his sudden lack of arms, Eadsmasha leapt to his feet and headbutted the astonished warboss Gutrip to death. After a trip to the painboy, Eadsmasha found himself implanted with cybork arms, onee of which was tipped with the late warboss gutrip's power klaw. Hearing about Warboss Eadsmashas's sudden rise in power, orks flocked to his banner. However, before leading his great Waaagh! to imperial worlds, Eadsmasha conquered other ork worlds and forced their tribes to join his mighty Waaagh!

Violent Space Marine Dedicated to Khorne

no name yet

Space Marine legion that turned against the emperor because they realized he was just a nutcase, but don't serve any chaos gods. Their psykers infiltrate other SM chapters to keep them from seeking out the sleeping necron gods. They control the space marines on mars where one of the necron gods lies, and indirectly control the hive fleet that possesses the fourth god. They work often with the Ulthwe, which contributes significantly to the Ulthwe's status among the Eldar (damned). They view the Imperium's destruction as vital to preventing a full Necron awakening, and hence the end of all life as foreseen by the Ulthwe.

Well, I could run some numbers for you to help you decide, but according to popular opinion, math doesn't make any difference in 40k, so why bother. So instead, I'll recount a completely unverifiable, anecdotal piece of evidence to leverage my position.

One time, I had 8 Berzerkers charge some blood claws, and all the blood claws were killed. Another time, a squad of Grey Knight Terminators charged my berzerkers in cover, and my Berzerkers killed them all. Another time, my berzerkers got shot before they could reach the enemy, and another time they won me 100 bucks because a guy didn't believe I painted them myself, and he bet against me.
See how helpful that was?

A company of World Eaters Space Marine traitors is on a mission to recover an ancient chaos artifact. Their Commander is a powerful veteran of the heresy and received a vision from their psychics during warp travel that said artifact may contain the power needed to ascend to demonhood.

Not going to pass this up the Marines descend upon the planet in question and quickly realize that it is and has been for many decades a well established Ork world. The crude planetary defenses and lack of intelligence gathered results in the Marines flagship being brought down far from the suspected location of the artifact. Upon learning of the crash landing a boss of the nearby tribe The Goreteef, Khar-Garg as he would later be known, sent his boys to investigate. The resulting incident would be the spark of a many decade long campaign of slaughter that would culminate at the head of the strange monolith that the orks had stayed away for as long as any of the boyz could remember.

The battle drew the majority of the entire planets population as word quickly spread of the skill of the traitor veterans in combat. Still the orks fell in scores being no match for the World Eaters ferocity. Still it was a battle of attrition and every marine felled was a great loss to war effort. It was the boss known as Khar-Garg and his comrade Teeg, (later known as Steelstompa)an aspiring mekboy, who started salvaging the fallen Marine equipment and outfitting his clan. With the combination of a closing technological gap and ork physiology, The Goreteef started to turn the tide with the combat exponentially increasing the orks martial prowess.

Ultimately in a final duel between ancient Champion of Khorne and the almost unrecognizable Ork Warlord, the Champion of Chaos was disarmed and made a B line for the stone that now emanated fury and crackled with barely contained warp energy. The Lord placed his hands upon the artifact and began to invoke the rites that would allow him to ascend to the foot of the brass throne. Before finishing his words however the towering Khar-Garg buried the champions own axe between his shoulder and neck rending him in two in one bloody arc.

This act was met with great roars of triumph from his now heavily scarred and frighteningly powerfull clan. A clan which now was had absorbed the remainder of the Ork planets population yet was no larger than an average greenskin warband. The scene before them was not being watch by ork eyes alone as the ritual, although incomplete, garnered the gaze of the Blood God's pantheon and it seemed that as one champion fell another rose.

Since then many systems have felt the rage of the so called "WAAAAGH!! Eaters", a monicker that is usually said through the barely contained snicker of those Imperials who have heard of the rumours but laugh at the idea of Orks parading around as space marines. But those few who have escaped the barbarity of the tribe once called The Goreteef with any semblance of sanity know the idea of imitation being the highest form of flattery when a chaos god is involved is no laughing matter.

So as is apperant by my signature I collect the T'au army and have come up with a backstory for them. They are quite similar to O'Shava or Commander Farsight's forces except they are still part of T'au society. Despite this they are still looked down on and Ethereals refuse to lead them into battle. They hail from the planet Vior'la and because of this they are a bit unorthidox. They enjoy the kill as much as the hunt and actually take trophies of their kills, which is typically the head of an enemy soldier. Their armor is gore red which reflects their bloodthirsty nature. Also they are extremely prejudiced against Kroot and Vespid and never accompany them into battle.

I've got a bunch written, this is the most well written one and is actually for the the space marine army i play

Chapter: Blood Dragons

Founding: 21st (cursed founding)

Founding legion/chapter: thought to be the Salamanders, although it is unconfirmed.

Chapter symbol and color scheme: A Dragon either with outspread wings or entwined around a sword, Dark red armor with Dark purple Trim

Home world: Vidian Sub Sector, half way between the dead world of Doton and the Tau Empire large number of planets inc several smaller planetoids, Vidian 4 is a recruiting world for the Vidian Imperial guard regiment, the planet is temperate with many cities
spread across it. The Mechanicus has also got a minor forge world in sector and this fact has in some cases caused problems with the Blood Dragons especially due to their orignal reluctance to provide gene seed data. The Blood Dragons home world itself Fernus, is a mountainous planet only slightly further out from the star than Vidian 4. Fernus is covered in mountains and plains, the peoples are hardy pre feudal people, divided into the mountain people and the plains people, although they share religious beliefs in the god emperor and his presence in their lives as a spirit form. Uniquely amongst the Astartes the Ministorum recruit priests from the people of the world especially from monasteries in the mountains and the shamans of the plains. It maybe this fact that has kept the Ecclesiarchy from directly criticizing the Blood Dragons.

Doctrines/combat style: Interestingly it depends on the company commanders, but often uses combination of lighting drops from Thunderhawks and deep infiltrations via drop pods and Thunderhawks, accompanied by land speeder support. Close combat can often seem to be over fielded amongst some companies, and on many occasions Blood Dragon forces have charged headlong at their enemies when many more tactful forces would have used consolidating advances, yet at other times when an all out assault would seem the smart thing to do the Blood Dragons have forgone this for tactics more associated with the Raven Guard or the Sons of the Snakes chapters.

Its also worth noting they tend to field 2 units not seen in codex chapters, the Cursed Knights, a unit which takes on the role that veteran squads in other Space Marine armies to, the marines are those members of the chapter who do not suffer its curse, yet they still lament from their brothers and often fight with a ferocity seldom seen amongst even their most zealous brothers. The second unit is the Drakes, similar to the Dragons Claws of the Black Dragons and fight in a very similar fashion.

Background: Chapters which were founded during the 21st founding are known as the cursed founding, during which the Mechanicus and others tampered with the gene seed used during the creation of the chapters... Exactly what was done is unknown, however judging from accounts not all the chapters were as affected in the same way or to the same extents. The Blood Dragons seem to share similarities with the Black dragons, as they share the ossirific bone growth on the forearms and head. As well as this though, some of the oldest members of the chapter display an extension of the standard Astartes rib fusing, adding to their already legendary resilience.

These obvious divergences from the standard growth of space marines has led, like the Black dragons, to the chapter having difficulties with other imperial forces and authorities. Although the Blood Dragons at first seem to share the Black Dragons hostility to any investigation, in recent years under their current Chapter master, Karl'Yarson, they appear to have been actively trying to find a solution working closely with the Adeptus Mechanicus Biologis on Vidian Primus forge-world and have sent 10% of their gene stock rather than the standard 5%.

The Blood Dragons have only taken part in one major campaign since their found, the defence of Cadia and surrounding systems 13th black Crusade. Their lack of major campaigning action is due to severe losses the chapter suffered during the Vidian Sector war. This conflict saw massive Necron activity in the system and directly led to the complete desolation of the outer 3 planets of the system. Although 2 of the planets were scarcely populated Vidian 8 was a hive world and the entire population was slaughtered. It wasn't until the the final days of the war when it really came down to the blood Dragons along with remnants of PDF, Vidian regiments on leave and even the skitarii and just out of production tanks of the Mechanicuus to hold the system.

The Blood Dragons were pushed to the very edge of destruction, when their calls for aid were finally answered, by elements of crusading fleet sent to deal with the Cult of the Deep Ones rebellion, who had intercepted a refugee convoy and diverted to the support of the beleaguered Blood Dragons. Although the system was saved, the chapter had been ravaged, their combat strength had dropped to less than 3 companies and the chapter master himself had been killed in combat as had all but 2 of the company commanders. The chapter had also lost one of the 2 orbital defence fortresses and the 2nd was heavily damage and little more than a orbiting hulk.

The next 2 hundred years saw the chapter attempt to rebuild its forces, during which the chapter was involved in simple system defence duties while the PDF, Imperial guard and Skitarii regiments rebuitr. During these decades of tedious garrison duty, the chapter saw little action save for a few engagements against Renegade Astartes forces and Dark Eldar raider They were supported in these duties by various chapters who had been part of relief forces, this support has led to close ties between the Blood Dragons, the White Scars and Night Watch, despite the often suspicious attitude of the Night Watch who regard the White Scars and the Blood Dragons as a little backward.

It appears that chapter has yet to finish rebuilding as during much of the 13th crusade they relied heavily on their tactical squads and other infantry units, seldom deploying their treasured terminator suites or the few heavily armoured vehicles still at their disposal.

Notable Members of the chapter:
Chaplain Serji Pledison, is perhaps the most respected of the chapters chaplains. He is responsible for overseeing the cursed knights

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I decided to just have one big army (Orks) and to split it into two forces to serve as a house army/teaching force for my friends (and myself since I'm a couple years out of practice). The fluff/narrative is sort of based on Gorkamorka: there's a big Ork city (Mogadishu meets The Orkapellego) and the residents of the city are (predictably) in a state of continual war with each other. Each unit I paint as a different gang and they fight for whichever Warboss hires them. When a non-Ork threat emerges (anyone who comes over and brings an army) the formerly warring parties unite, only to fall back into internecine struggle once the external threat to Orktown has past.

I could also use the same stuff for Gorkamorka if I ever get into that.

right behind you...

so yea, I'm workin on my SM chapters fluff, but this is what I've got so far.
nameScorpion Knights[u]
[u]Homeworld
Scorpinox 12: a massive moon orbiting the gas giant Scorpinox approximately Earth-sized (really big gas giant) there are 20 total moons around Scorpinox about 7 are habitable most are feudal or tribal. In towrds the sun are Charos and Pharos a hive world and agri-world respectively, then two unnamed death worlds (possible Necron activity on the planet closest to the sun). Towards the outside of the system from Scorpinox is a dead Eldar world dubbed Tauros (all inhabitants were either killed or became Dark Eldar when the Eye of Terror was created, this world marks the maximum reach of the Eye at its birth in this system which is along the edge of the Eye, approximately 6 months journy from Cadia) then 2 average sized worlds that have been blasted and shredded by the constant fighting in the system Between the Knights and the forces of Chaos almost constantly spilling out from the Eye.
Backstory Much of the information on the founding of the Scorpoin Knights has been lost, all that is known is that they were sent to the aid of the Imperial worlds in the system, and to recover several STC's that were fond on one of the outer planets. Unfortuanately for the Knights, Abbadon launched a rather sizeable feint at the same time, the two forces collided on the outermost world and after almost a year of bitter fighting, the Knights backtracked one world, STC's in tow, however the Thunderhawk carrying them during the fallback was downed and fell into a network of tunnels upon crashing, which promptly caved in. The Chaos Marines were oblivious to this and left the world un-tainted in favor of pursuing the Knights. The Fighting went on for many years, the Knights almost constantly fightind deffensively or falling back untill the 500 odd survivors and the remaining IG and PDF forces made a last stand on Scorpinox 12, at the end of a 3 mile long canyon, on the other end was the only viable LZ on the mountain coverd planet. An UltraMarines ship with 100 marines and supplies made a breif respite on a long jpuney, the Knights requested aid, and were rejected with a rather blunt and ineloquent "no". The seige lasted several years, but eventually, the last of the Chaos forces was eventually wiped out with all of 300 Knights remaining. They decided that they would establish their Fortress Monastary on that spot, and to beginrebuilding before tipping their hand as to the pressence of the STC's at the edge of the system. Contact with the Imperium updated their mission to stay in system as a stopgate against further incursions to the Imperium by the forces of chaos (Abbadons feint worked, to an extent, as no aid was given to the Scorpoin Knights, save the local IG and PDF forces). The Scorpion Knights, as they began recruiting from the inhabited moons of Scorpinox, began to nitpick at the Codex Astares, partly out of anger at the Ultramarines refusal to aid them and partly out of the several times their prviously strict adherence to it had failed them, due to the Choas forces having fought the same tactics for thousands of years easily anticipated and counter actedmany of the Knights moves before they even began them. In fact the only reason their last stand on Scorpinox 12 had been successful was the fact that they did not adhere to the Codex for that battle. Also the current Chapter Master found the 1000 marine limit enforced by the codex to be restrictive, especially for a long term defensive engagement so the version of the codex he taught his new initiates was devoid of many of Guilimans restrictions, and left verry open tactically untill the Knights had found their own tactics. Unfortuanately by the time they were ready to move to recover the STC's, Abbadon the Despoiler had learned of the failure of his first force, and began to apply a steady and constant pressure to that planet, likely in the hopes of tying up more Imperial Forces before his push on the Cadian system hundreds of years in advance. However, the Scorpion Knights received no aid from any other forces of the Imperium, save the occaisional squad of Grey Knights when the demonic pressence n the area became large enough that a squad or two would be sent to deal with the issue. So the Scorpion Knights became feircely independent, and developed their own set tactics. When the 13th BLack Crusade was launched, the pressure on the Scorpinox system was doubled, although that paled in comparrison to what poured out of the Eye in Cadia it was more than enough to keep the Scorpion Knights from contributing to the defence of Cadia. The Scorpion Knights are currently still holding the Scorpinox system, although the number of Chaos forces assailing them has reduced to the number common before the 13th Black Crusade.
Tactics Traditionally the Scorpion Knights make use of Hammer and Anvil type tactics, and forgo any form of stealth, as well as Bikes and Land speeders in favor of drop pods and assult marines w/jetpacks.
Colours Dark Green (the same hue as the gas giant they make their base so near) with Blue secondary and white trim.
Emblem look at my avatar pic, but put it over blue not white.

Through passion I gain strength.
Through strength I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory my chains are broken.
