What do you think should happen in the 40k storyline, based on background or just what would be cool?

I think the 'Nids should launch their massive attack/invasion on the entire galaxy, which drives someone to wake up the Necrons so the Nids might be slowed down.
For some reason the chaos gods would get involved (maybe because the Eldar join the battle to destroy the Necrons before they can be destroyed), and the Emperor would wake up to lay the smack down, and die.

Well, I could run some numbers for you to help you decide, but according to popular opinion, math doesn't make any difference in 40k, so why bother. So instead, I'll recount a completely unverifiable, anecdotal piece of evidence to leverage my position.

One time, I had 8 Berzerkers charge some blood claws, and all the blood claws were killed. Another time, a squad of Grey Knight Terminators charged my berzerkers in cover, and my Berzerkers killed them all. Another time, my berzerkers got shot before they could reach the enemy, and another time they won me 100 bucks because a guy didn't believe I painted them myself, and he bet against me.
See how helpful that was?

I take it that he becomes a leet warp entity as he dies thanks to the human masses that worship him as a god already, and then we have a nice retelling of the war in heaven.

I think it's much more possible that the Dragon will awaken on Mars and cause the another civil war in the Imperium between the Adeptus Mechanicus and those loyal to the Emperor. During this time you could also have whoever is winning the Ork vs. Nid beatdown start to head towards Imperial space. Abaddon can unleash another Black Crusade. Also, you could have Cypher finally make it back to Terra and kill the Emperor so that the Space Emperor can be reborn in what would most likely be the darkest of times for humanity. Abaddon already knows the Dragon is on Mars and the Adeptus Soriortas knows something is wrong with the Golden Throne.

I don't want anything that will drastically alter the galaxy like the Necrons fully awakening or the Emperor ascending.

I would like a new ork Warlord to rise and launch a massive Waaagh somewhere, one so massive that it attracts Ghazzie's attention and causes a counter Waaagh to show whose the better boss. That would be fun and interesting without drastically reshaping the power structure of the galaxy.

I would like some kind of revelation within the Adeptus Mechanus to allow advancement in Imperial technology just to add a little more variety to the stories.

I would like a primarch of some sort to return and lead the fight against the Tyranids for the Imperium or perhaps a new one be created some how.

I'd like an Eldar craftworld to be lost, just to panic the race and give them a little more to fear and possibly accelerate their efforts.

Chaos, Necrons and Tau fluff is doing just fine for advancement.

I'd like to see the emperor either wake up or be killed..
If woken up I can see him trying to continue his Holy Crusade, If killed I can see him becoming a god.

I guess the first choice is a little less drastic, and I think if the Emperor was killed, even if he did become a god, it would tear the imperium apart.

Personally, I think the two main vectors for advancing the storyline lie in the C'Tan and in Cypher - and they don't necessarily have to be distinct, either - I could foresee a storyline including both of them.

Here are my thoughts on this - I don't think that it's necessary for Cypher to kill the Emperor. In fact, my theory is that Cypher is an instrument of the Emperor - perhaps the only true instrument of the Emperor these days.

I could foresee Chaos coming to Mars to awaken the Dragon. The combined forces of the Dragon and Chaos attack Earth to finish off the Emperor. The Emperor's defending forces are stretched to their limits, and the Dragon is about to kill off the Emperor. Suddenly, Cypher shows up - there's a cataclysmic battle between Cypher and the Dragon and both annihilate each other.

It doesn't really progress in any meaningful way that substantially changes the reality of the 40k universe, but it makes for some interesting plots along the way.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack
