Well, I finally got my first shipment of Red Blok stuff in the mail. The Army book and RPG Soldaty arrived today and I'm very happy with what I'm seeing.

The army book is very nice from my first flip through. The full color throughout the book is nice to see. And after seeing the Hetman's stats, I'm probably going to be pushing one into my army minus the wonder twins. They just don't fit the army in my head ^_-.

On to the meat and potatoes of the shipment. The RPG Soldaty.

Just. Wow. I was impressed right out the box.

Paint:

These are by far the best pre-paints I've ever seen. I couldn't help but think they look better than 70% of what I've seen a lot of people try to pass of as paint in 40k in all of my years of wargaming.

Poses:

Some of the poses are spot on. Some others look awkward and off balance. Though this is not too much different than some of my early attempts at posing 40k mini's back in the day. A little bit of clipping and heat here and there should fix all of the issues I have with the off poses. While others I won't have to touch at all.

Bases:
I had planned to rebase my models from the get go. But these are definitely not bad for a starting texture. Or even if you have a cityfight table you want your guys to fight on. The bases themselves are a little bit larger than the standard 40k base. So those of you who are thinking of investing in these for quick and easy IG, you're going to probably want to rebase your models to alleviate any issues with your opponents.

Scale:
They are about a half a head taller than a Space Marine from 40k. So they look a bit better proportioned than your standard IG trooper. All that said though, they would still make a fine stand in for IG.

Issues:

Some issues I have after getting past the initial amazement though include the Sgt snapping in half trying to rotate his torso. This lead to a complete repose of his upper torso which included clipping his arm and hand to get a more natural look. I still might go back and rework him some more.

This could be the start of a beautiful relationship. I <3 Rackham.

Bullpup guns. Similar scale to IG. Me thinks I see cheap Ellisians.

Actually they're more a Carbine weapon. A bullpup would have it's handgrip further forward to facilitate all the worky bits (bolt, ammo feed/magazine, buffer spring, etc.) further behind it. Carbines are just smaller (see: shorter) versions of normal sized weapons. Same general concept though ^_^ Shorter Weapons for CQC.

They are pretty nice all and all. I plan on touching up the faces on mine but other wise they are good. I just love the idea that I dont have to paint them.

Cry Havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

And people still bitch about the AT-43 prepaints.... Go figure.

The RPG soldaty do look like pants on paper with range 0 weapons and other very short range stuff.

No matter, this unit is nasty. I use RPG Soldaty in every game I play almost depending on which platoon pattern I use.

I ordered them after reading some of your thoughts over on the at43 forums.

I still plan on getting a unit worth of krasnye for good ol' grenade launchers.

Oh and a Hetman. Why would you bother with a Kossak when the hetman is 1 shot less for lots more penetrating power? All for the same points cost? Yes Plz.

I actually love playing AT-43 now. And the prepaints in OD do look pants. It's the later ones that are okay.

I have an awesome idea for a Red Blok force with two units of Dragonovs each with two electronic warfare specialists and 3 snipers, 6 Sierps, and a units of Krasnaye Soldaty with two Mechanics to heal the Sierps. Oh, and Tymofyeva or however you spell it. Ultimate Disruption folowed by officer sniping. The only issue is if they have an AFV commander. And I'll figure it out.
