Alright people, I'm new to Chaos and this is my first attempt at building a 750 pts army. I plan to start small, im going to buy this army and then go bigger and bigger.

Daemon Prince - 135
- wings
- mark of slaanesh

8 Chaos Marines - 195
- plasma gun
- Chaos glory
- Rhino w/ havoc launcher

8 Chaos Marines - 195
- plasma gun
- chaos glory
- Rhino w/ havoc launcher

8 Havocs - 225
- 3 missile launchers
- 1 lascannon
- chaos glory

Please comment, tell what i should change, why it sucks etc.
Thanks in advance.

not sure if the havoc launcher is gonna be worth the points here, you'd be better off getting another guy or two in each squad if you could find the few more points. one way would be to drop mark of slaanesh off the daemon prince, that would let you get the marine rhno squads to full.

i like the list though, good body count, nice tactical flexibility, solid for me

Though you might not have them, 3 obliterators would probably be preferable to the havocs... they can do everything the havocs can do and better.

except for take punishment. oblits die mighty easily with S8 anything, and things like plasma. i'd take havocs any day of the week

Most S8 weapons bounce off oblits, and plasma does too.

Lascannons, Pulse Lasers, and Railguns kill oblits.

Everything else pretty much has to fire alot or waste template shots on one oblits.

It really does call for protecting your oblits properly, of course, with the rest of your army.

at T4 plasma fries them. sure they have an ivul but not enough to survive a round of shooting with several plasma and lascannon shots.

they just aren't as survivable anymore, and more points too. i'm not gonna go into my anger at the GW screw up of the new chaos codex so whatev.

anyway i still think this list is solid, and the Havocs will do just fine for the same points

Plasma has to hit (3+), wound (2+), not be saved (5+), and then it causes a single wound. If you mean by deep striking troops or something, if you run your chaos troops and DP in a semi-circle around your oblits, nobody is going to get close.

That doesn't mean someone won't do a suicide drop, but you can vastly increase their chances of dying by spreading yourself out properly.

A plasma cannon should never ever get 1 hit and 1 partial (or 2) on your obliterators. That's just player error. Anyone that focuses on killing my obliterators better have a ton of lascannons, that's the only sure way. So if it isn't guard, in todays tournament scene odds are it isn't going to happen. Plus, there are 30+ marines and 2 DP running around, if you really want to ignore them that just helps my army.

i only see one DP but whatev. all i'm saying is i see plenty of termies die to lasguns, etc. so i think oblits are too fragile to use. it's all about personal preference. yes they are good though, so it's really up to Colonel_Schwotz's needs/wants

Well the reason i have the havocs in the list is simply because i dont have obliterators.

Are obliterators really that much better than havocs? Like it has been mentioned, they seem too fragile to me, although they'd have the bonus of choosing separate targets to fire at as in this list, they'd take one heavy support each.

Also, im kind of unsure if i should use them, as to me they seem too expensive for what they are. However, i've never actually used them in a battle so i cant really talk.

looking at them they are pretty good, but in ones and twos they are too fragile. thing like plasma will cut them down eventually (5+ won't save you that long) they are better f taken in several groups of three, enough staying power, and wounds to be annoying for a long time

I said take a trio, as that's exactly the cost of the havocs... and remember, they can still move and shoot if they get into trouble, whereas havocs can't. overall, i'd say they're better against everything but orks, because oblits don't have enough shooty-weapons. however, with what you've got on your havocs, that doesn't matter so much... plasma cannons are MUCH better than missile launchers, and if someone's a dick and brings in a defiler or leman russ, you can toast them with no issue. overall, oblits are probably better in every way except the damage taking... but 2 wounds isn't that big of a deal.

I agree with Bastirous666, Obliterators are too vulnerable. They look nice on paper but they're more vulnerable than an equivalent value in Havocs (unless you have a squad of five Havocs with four Lascannons and an Icon of Chaos Glory, in which case the Havocs have more Lascannons), and you can transport the Havocs.

Most importantly, Havocs just look better, particularly if you use the plastic Space Marine Devastator heavy weapons.

oh yea right, i definitely forgot to gripe about how darn expensive oblits are. $25 a pop GW, forget that!
