One Canoptek Scarab in a Swarm

Mission Viejo, CA

Played a game with my friend earlier this week that turned out to be a true rout in the Necron's favor. After losing 4 games straight to this guy (and getting 2 ties within 5 pnts), it's about time I finally got a solid win! I only have 3 Immortal models at the moment, so filling in will be a small contingent of Uruks. Can't wait until I finish those warrior conversion! Also, Destroyer Lords are the unpainted Destroyers on the table. Anyway, here's the list:

Necrons
Destroyer Lord 1-Warscythe, Phase Shifter, Phylactery, Chronometron
Destroyer Lord 2-Warscythe, Nightmare Shroud, Phylactery, Chronometron
12 Warriors
12 Warriors
5 Immortals
5 Immortals
9 Scarabs
9 Scarabs
5 Destroyers
2 Heavy Destroyers
1 Heavy Destroyer
1 Monolith
Total pnts-1998
phase out-11

Having never used 2 Destroyer Lords before, I thought I'd give it a shot, using almost full squads of scarabs as their escort. Having the Avatar on the board made my Nightmare Shroud almost useless, but it was a good chance to use gear I don't often take. Also split my usual 10 Immortals into 2 squads of 5 to increase survivability(better chance to get WBB) and to be able to split my shooting.

Eldar (approximating model counts)
Eldrad
Avatar of Khaine
20 Storm Guardians w/warlock
20 Storm Guardians w/warlock
10 Harlequins w/shadowseer
10 Banshees w/exarch
6 Dark Reapers w/exarch
5 Wraithguard w/warlock, in Wave Serpent
2 Wraithlords

We just decided to do a Seek and Destroy for time's sake and rolled for sides. He got first pick and so I began deployment. We ended up with this:

Initially, he had started with the Banshees closer to the ruins and the Avatar near the Guardians and Reapers, but used Eldrad's redeployment to pull the Banshees back and the Avatar to the main fighting force. He had hope to pull my forces (primarily Destroyers) more out to the left, but I didn't fall for his Eldar sneakiness.

I won the turn roll and opted to go first, much to my delight, as what followed was truly amazing.
Necrons Turn 1
Monolith moves forward 6", flanked by Immortals on the left and Warriors trudging through the forest on the right. Destroyers shift left behind the obstacles and scarabs and DL2 turbo boost behind ruins to engage Reapers on Turn 2. Heavy D's stay put to put the hurt on one of the Wraithlords but fail to wound due to cover save. Monolith drops ordnance on Reapers and nails the scatter roll, killing 3 Reapers and 6 Guardians in one fell swoop. Immortals 1 fire on Reapers and finish them off, Immortals 2 turn their fire onto the Guardians, causing at least 6 more wounds. Destroyers have an angle on Banshees behind the hill and take down at least 6 of the Banshees with their fire. And then it happens. Both the Banshees and Guardians fail their Morale checks and fall back OFF THE BOARD. The entire left flank, gone. I was pretty dang happy.

Where'd they all go?

Eldar Turn 1
Everything moves forward a few inches to get out of difficult terrain in preperation for an assault on my warrriors in an attempt to push for phase out. Wave Serpent moves forward towards Monolith. Also, everything scatters in order to avoid further templte death. Wraithlords fire Star Cannons on Immortals 1, dropping 1.

Necrons Turn 2
DL2 and scarabs boost up to hill, trying to get into position for Lord to engage Eldrad. H. Dests. take 2 wounds off of a Wraithlord. Warriors move forward in forest and rapid fire on Wave Serpent, Immobilizing it. The Wraithguard emerge from the Wave Serpent unscathed and prepared to exact vengeance on the Monolith.Monolith stays put and drops template on Wraithguard, but scatters 3 inches and takes out 1 Wraithguard and 3 or so Guardians.

Eldar Turn 2
Wraithguard shamble forward and 3 get hits on Monolith, only causing 1 Weapon destroyed result. Wraithlord move slowly towards my front line of troops with Guardians and Harlequins in tow, dropping 2 more Immortals with Star Cannon.

The remnants of the Eldar army edge forward.

Necrons Turn 3
DL2 and scarabs engage Guardians and Eldrad, with DL2 on Guardians (couldn't get him close enough to Eldrad). Immortals and Destroyers fire on Wraithguard, only killing 2, H. Destroyers drop 1 Wraithlord, while front Warriors rapid fire on the 2nd, causing 1 wound. 2nd group of Warriors fire 1 shot at Guardians, taking down a handful. Eldrad takes no wounds from the scarabs (surprise!) and Guardians lose 2 to DL. Eldar take down 2 scarab bases to win the fight, pile in. DL1 wonders what the heck he should be doing right, decides to get into position to assault Wraithlord.

Eldar Turn 3
Avatar comes around to help Eldrad with his bug problems and squashes them. Harlequins engage DL2 and wipe the floor with him. 4 Rending rolls. He never had a chance. 2 Scarab bases survive....everything piles into them. Wraithlord charges into combat with warriors, downing 3. Remaining Wraithguard fire at Monolith, stunning it.

Necrons Turn 4
Monolith pulls Warriors out of combat with Wraithlord, they move forward to rapid fire him with gaussy goodness and he dies, much to everyone's amazement. Second swarm of scarabs move in between the warriors and Harlequins to block the inevitable assault. H. Destroyers drop the remaining Wraithguard, leaving the Warlock to be finished off by the Immortals. Destroyers have absolutely nothing to shoot at, move up in front of ruins. Scarabs put up a valiant fight....not really, they die quickly.

13 Storm Guardians, a Warlock, 10 Harlequins, the Avatar, and Eldrad all take on 2 scarabs. We had a good laugh.

Eldar Turn 4
Harlequins and Guardians engage second scarabs swarm, make short work of them, leaving, again, only 2 bases. Eldrad climbs atop the wrecked Wave Serpent to watch the slaughter with the Avatar following behind the Harlies. Eldar player disengages harlequins in an attempt to reach my Immortals, only rolls a 7", so decides to stay put, unengaged. He does this thinking that my remaining scarabs will have to pile in to both the Guardians AND the Harlequins. I debate that, since the Harlequins disengaged from the combat, my scarabs don't have to reengage them and end up only engaging the Guardians. You make the call! Eldrad ends up peeling off 2 wounds from my DL1 with Mind War (bah!).

Necrons Turn 5
Monolith pulls back group of Warriors (still at full strength) through the portal and, combined with the Immortals, Destroyers, and other group of Warriors, they obliterate the Harlequins. Heavy Dests. fire at Eldrad, do absolutely nothing. And then the Destroyers fire at the Avatar, and he rolls six 1's for his saves......we were speechless. He may have cried a little. DL1 decides to go balls to the wall and assault Eldrad on the Wave Serpent. Passes Dangerous Terrain test but falls to Eldrad's mighty staff. Guardians make little messes of the scarabs and move to assault my larger group of Warriors.

Proof that the Dice Gods had turned their back on the Eldar.

Eldar Turn 5
Eldrad fortunes himself and Guardians, Guardians rush towards my Warriors, dropping 1 in shooting and 2 more in assault.

Guardians preparing to make final charge. Notice that Eldrad is pointing the other way. No one ever listens to him.

Necron Turn 6
Monolith pulles warriors out of combat, with 2 passing WBB (I know it's cheesy, but I really wanted to shoot him all to pieces) and both Guardians and Eldrad get flayed to itty bitty bits. Game over.

All in all, he got roughly 600 pnts for my Lords, scarabs, and half of my Immortals, which landed me with a Crushing Victory. I know he got screwed by the dice, but it still felt good.

A few questions/comments:

Dark Reapers are max 5, not 5+1.

Did the Wave Serpent carrying the Wraithguard crash on turn two? If so, the Wraithguard could not move the next turn, they'd be entangled.

When you hit and run, you must move the distance rolled. Even if it was 1", if you are still locked in combat with another unit you could not re-engage someone who H&R out.

You know you can't really stun a monolith, right? Not in the normal sense, anyway. It seems you do, just making sure.

Oh and you should spend a week making some terrain...

Like I said, the Eldar units were approximations, so it must have been 5 Reapers total. The game was on Tuesday, so some of the details escape me.

I think we forgot about Entanglement. Thanks!

Good call on the Hit and Run/obligatory movement.

Stunning a monolith does mean that it can't move or fire the Gauss Flux arc, right? I know you can still use the Power Matrix, but I don't see anything else in the Codex.

We had just finished making some more urban/city terrain, but wanted to do a more open field with area terrain(rubble and forest), so we didn't use most of what we have.

And eventually he'll get that Avatar and Eldrad....and the rest of his harlies painted.

The Wave Serpent may have had vectored engines. If I had only one skimmer on the board carrying a very valuable cargo, I would definitely have them.

Infinity: Way, way better than 40K and more affordable to boot!
