Subject: Nurgle Raptors, help? ;D

Just ordered 5 packs of 5 raptors for a total of 20 raptors online (damn extra lords..), but I'm thinking about canceling and just converting some plague marines instead. But my question is does anyone happen to know how big the "open harpy wing" bits are from the uk games workshop store? And if they'd look okay on plague marines? Also not sure if I would include the backpack or not. Could use any other suggestions for wings if those won't work, just don't want it to look stupid LOL
Would also be needing bits for chaos space marine arms, bolt pistols, death guard shoulderpads, and possibley using a single necron talon/claw for the close combat weapons instead of chain swords, if I can remember for the life of me what the talons are called. Any other modeling suggestions for nurgle raptors would be most excellent
On another note I'm still trying to figure out how to make a nurgley daemon prince or 2 with wings, but I think for one of them I might buy the standard nurgle daemon prince model and give him some really tiny angel wings just cus it would look hilarious, not sure what wings would be good for that (talk about looking stupid lol..)
Thanks in advance!

The Harpie wing will work as will the old Nid Gargoyle wings. You can skip the back packs just dress the fig up a bit with those loing cloth ammo rigs and pistols holters. I used a hot glue gun to make organic looking vines and such around the wing joint. Cant really see that in the pic but it worked well.
Take a dremel with a larger bit and "dent" the armor, use the rle of three. Rough up the metal a tad with a file and use daps of wood glue for the pus bumps. You can also use a bit of white glue with sand in it around the bump when they are dry to give some more texture to them. ( dont go too crazy with this less is more with this stuff )
Just take a good look at the DeathGuard figs and try to make em look similar.
As for the Deamon price the Plastic Dragon wings should be one of the few things left in bits order on line. So they whould not be a problem. Other wise I have seen a few guys use fly wings from one of the gag big bugs. Like they see at spencers or the dollar store. Finding the right looking wings will make all the differance.
Hope it helps, Good luck.

NICE PIC!
Thanks for the quick reply, interesting ideas. However I was just wondering where you get your bits from? Can't seem to find gargoyle wings on any of the bit websites or GW, nor can I find plastic dragon wings (although I still like the idea of super tiny wings on a giant DP).
Also how did you attach the wings to the model, just simply glue'd on or is that what the dremel is for? Gonna be starting with plague marine models to begin so shouldn't really dent model too much, but ideas with glue are awesome as well as pistol holster!!
I will probably go with harpy wings if garg wings are more expensive b/c you can buy em in sets of 5, but need to find a good bits store anyway.
EDIT: Thinking I might do 2 of the necron talons 1 on each hand since I can just use holstered pistols, only problem is it doesn't seem like they'd be able to fire the pistols with hands like those lol

Thanks for the infos anyway

Since it is Nurgle, have you considered insect or fly wings? I am not sure where to buy them. It would probably be easier to make some out of plastic. It would be easy to add vein texture with glue. Maybe some big fly like bug eyes or long mosquito like feeding tubes.

giant fly wings - or maybe filthy rotting vulture wings? - get my vote. Actually modelling them may not be so easy though

Spoke to them last week. They are slimmming down the lines of bits and recoding/pricing the bits. It will take a few months but supposedly they will bring back alot of the stuff. They tried to do it while the department was still running and it just was not working. So they decided to shut the whole department down to do this. Lets just hope the wait is worth it.

Nice pics! Doh wish I knew that about US GW before I went and bought a buncha stuff from the UK one ... Ah well
Went ahead and got myself some plague marine, bolt pistols, shoulderpads, chainswords, and open harpy wings. Only thing I'm concerned about is how easily harpy wings will fall off. Open to suggestions on howto model em so they stay on sturdy. Not sure if glue will be enough? Suppose both glue and green stuff?
Anyone know where I can find some somewhat small feathery looking wings? lol
Thanks for infos and advice thus far ;D
EDIT: Would SM assault squad jump packs fit on death guard models? Better than wings maybe?

I found the plastic CSM's worked better than the metal. It has a little more "give"

Was also worried about targeting being easier with these widespan wings...Maybe I should just go with jump pack, but bleh that would mean I need to change yet another order
On the other hand they might look cooler with wings..
Hmmm what to do, what to do

you could do both. Have some with wings and other with jump packs. Be cool if you could combine it on one or two

well, since you target to the base of the model, or at least you should, it shouldn't matter how big or small your wings are..

Pinning is your friend. Although it's a pain in the a**, It's totally worth it for an elite squad that you want to last. Lumps of GS not only look terrible, they don't hold.
Man, i really like Kyoto's raptors. The Locusts are pretty awesome too, including the name.
