i was trying out different army lists for orks and i was wondering if ard boys (boys with 4+ saves) were worth the 4 pts each. Normally i dont think it would make a huge differece, but it makes bolters and most wepons go from piercing it completly to getting a 1/2 chance to live.

ive never seen anyone use them in a list except for me, any feedback?

thanks

I like the idea of one squad of them (not that you can take more than ome ), so long as you can put them where bolter fire (and other basic weapons that don't ignore the 4+ save) will be their main opposition - they're a waste of points against anything heavier. They do attract a lot of fire, so arguably could be used as a sacrificial 'shoot me or die' unit, but are kind of expensive for that, compared to a big mob of ordinary boyz

Ard Boyz are only halfway worthwhile in a trukk. On foot, all the heavy bolter-equivalents in your opponent's army will be pointed at them and you're better off taking the 5+ KFF save.

I've been having a lot of success with a 'ard boyz squad in a trukk, 9 boyz + PK nob + megaboss. Hits pretty hard, and they're orks that actually have a vague chance of saving in HtH... truly, a novel concept.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;

Even better than 12 'ardboys in a trukk is a squad of 20 in a battlewagon.

Maybe in 5th, Dakkalad. As of now, can you say "entanglement"? Maybe if you fielded multiple BWs to screen the main one, or you play magic cylinder LoS so Trukks etc. can screen it, it would work.

hmm, ok, bc i had been running a squad of 30 of them with nob with pc and they take up ALOT of fire, then my 3-4 trukks of boys and 9 bikes are in there and they rip people apart.

Hmm. Maybe three Battlewagons: One with 'Ardboyz, two with Mega Armoured Nobz. Give'em the Reinforced Ram so you can drive through cover (aka difficult terrain), and maybe a lick of paint for speed.
