So, after recently coming across 10 brand new Immortals dirt cheap (go me!) and having 10 more being shipped to me next Wednesday, I thought I would pose the folowing question to the braintrust here at Dakka:

Is two 5-man strong squads acceptable? Or am I better off making one ten-strong squad until the other 10 arrive?

Also, when I have all 20 ready to go, is 3x 6-man squads acceptable, or am I better off with 2 10-man squads?

personally i like 10-robot squads - hard to wipe out - but I could be tempted to try a 10 squad and a couple of small 5 squads

5 and 5 for WBB purposes. It's easier to take down one 10-bot squad than two 5-bot squads.

always spread your necrons over as many selection slots as possible. just don't spread them too thin on the table top. as long as all your immortals are within range of each other for WBB multiple small squads are more resilient.

caveat: bigger squads are better for teleporting, but i find that warriors are the unit i do the teleport dance with because immortals can move on their own. by late game small immortal squads will have likely been grouped into one squad by WBB anyway.

All great thoughts.

Also, the ability to split your S5 shooting can be much more effective than just overkilling everything with 20 shots. In the end, it just gives you more options, so long as you keep them w/in 6" of another group of Immortals or have a Spyder nearby.

I see your point, but the lower range of the Gauss Flayer forces you to get into more dangerous situations with your warriors. I personally like to rely less on the luck of a good scatter and more on the overall strategy of showing up on my opponent's flank with plenty of range and firepower to do some damage. You get a bad scatter with Warriors and you either A)lose the unit or B)scatter out of range and get the sh*t shot out of you in the next round.

For necron, its always a good idea to split up your units in to multiple squads for WBB reasons.
