Like the title says, are there any stores in/around the Toronto area (roughly 1 hour drive max, pretty please) that has regular gaming days on the weekends and/or holds tournaments?

I don't know about LGS.

Also, there is a new bunker opening up.

The oakville battle bunker is right close by. Also Imperial hobbies in nearby london has 40k every saturday from 1:00 till whenever you want to leave. (the gaming section is locked off from the main store so you can play until whenever) Wich also has Flames of war every other sunday and warhammer every monday from 1:00 on.

The store I most frequent is Phoenix Rising in St. Catharines (which is 20 mins from the falls and probably 45 minutes from southern T.O. depending on how fast you drive)

They always have people playing 40k on saturdays and sundays as well as a large turnout of Magic the Gathering and Starwars(unsure of the offical name of this minis game) players. Recently the locals have made a push into Warhammer fantasy as well. So on sundays you will find somewhere between 5-14 WFB players. They generally have one Apoc game a month and tournys for 40k every couple of months(which usually have between 20-32 players). The store has a lot of playing room and pulls in players regularly from places 2-3 hours away. Their website is listed below for more info on location, tournys, deals, and special events. As well as a gallery of some past tourney's of which I am in a few of the winners pics!!

Their website:

Note: D+ can take over 12 hours of driving in Canada. It's no small task here.

Been there, done that.

I can't handle the owner so I just stick to GW.

The GW is not my style. Too many little kids and such and I have no patience for them. And I prefer a very large playing space. It's odd that you had issues with wayne he seems like a nice guy but I do not know the details so I'll stay on the fence with that

Long story short is he tried to overcharge my fiancee for something thinking she had no idea what it was worth, after he had already quoted her a lower price on the item.

That and I don't like the last-minute tournament surprises he sprung the last time I played in a tournament there.

The first 40k tournament they had after opening the new shop was pimped pretty hard, both on their site and in store. I called two weeks before the date to pre-register and to ask a few questions about the tournament.

I specifically asked what kind of scenarios they were using, and how scoring was being done. I was told it would be hall of heroes scoring (boo, hiss) and that scenarios were "standard ones", which I took to mean out of the rulebook.

Wrong. When we get there, the tables are set up with entirely too much terrain, and each table has a little leaflet with the rules for the table.

The two games I played used the same scenario (originality ftw!) and it went as follows:

At the beginning of each of your turns, roll a d6 for each unit in your army, on a 1, roll on the following table:

1: Unit may do nothing this turn (this included assaulting and psychic powers)
2: Unit may not move this turn
3: Unit may not shoot this turn
4-6: Unit moves at half speed this turn.

This affected EVERY unit in your army. Vehicles, MCs, everything.

After reading a couple of the scenarios (my personal favorite involved three mountains that moved each turn and destroyed units they landed on), I decided the tournament wasn't for me, so I went upstairs to ask for my money back before we began. No dice. I was basically told tough luck, even though I called ahead to get info.

So after two games, I dropped, went up to GW, and played 2 more games for free that I actually enjoyed.

I later found out that my army comp was given a zero because the owner felt all Nurgle CSM (with no Oblits) was cheap, while the guy who brought 2 units of TH/SS termies at 1500 was given full marks.

Oh, and then there's the neckbeard who accused me of cheating just by looking at my army. Fun times indeed.

I was wondering about a toronto/surrounding area site and I thought up this:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=121141487932735

This is in no way to take away from dakka dakka just to aid toronto gamers on dakka for local pick up deals incase of filtering through the swapshop on dakka comes up short and to set up local games

Hi

If you are looking for a big tournament, the Warmaster's Challenge in Kitchener is being held on September 18-19.

Having seen some of your other posts, I ought to warn you that it is a complete hobby tournament if you want to win, and features "gimmicks" that you have railed about in other threads - you know, a doubles tournament, non-standard scenarios - things that make the event different from a standard tournament.

Phoenix Games in Kitchener has a semi-annual Warhammer Weekend, usually in May and November. These tend to be fairly standard events with judged painting (via Checklist) and yes/no criteria for sportsmanship (code of conduct).

Cheers,
Nate

I've heard about Warmasters, and a few friends are going that have asked me to tag along.

Not sure how I feel about it. The idea of getting in guaranteed games over a weekend is appealing.

Hi

Well, we have 35 teams signed up and 56 players for the singles as of today (August 11). So if size matters, it is a big event, especially for this region.

Cheers,
Nate

I frequent a place called heroes world in Markham on warden St between highway 7 and 16. Great place, friendly environment.
