Well just got back on Monday so still recovering from playing almost every waking hour in Chicago. My 40k team was playing for a top spot the last round.

My team consisted of two Blood Raven armies plus one Ulwthe and one Bieltan eldar army apiece. The theme was the Dawn of War video games and the trilogy from the Black Library by CS Goto. The Ulwthe army represents the game while the Bieltan represents the novels.

Here are the two Blood Ravens army lists:

Blood Ravens 1/2 Company #1
Librarian in terminator armor w. storm shield, admantium mantle, VoT & FotA
4x terminator command squad w. 2x assault cannon

5x tactical Marine w. las/plas
5x tactical Marine w. las/plas
5x tactical Marine w. las/plas

5x Devs w. 4x HB

LST w. HB & AC

Blood Ravens 1/2 Company #2
Librarian in terminator armor w. storm shield, admantium mantle, VoT & FoD
4x terminator command squad w. 2x assault cannon

5x tactical Marine w. las/plas
5x tactical Marine w. las/plas
5x tactical Marine w. las/plas

5x Devs w. 2x ML

LST w. HB & AC

12 scoring units at 2000 points total

Here are the army lists for the two 1000 point eldar armies (best that I can remember ):

Bieltan
Farseer on jetbike w. singing spear, doom, fortune & guide

6x Harlequins all w. kiss (incl. troop master & shadow seer)

10x Dire Avengers (incl. exarch w. Blade Storm) in Wave Serpent
5x Pathfinders

Super Falcon

Ulthwe
Farseer on jetbike w. singing spear, doom, fortune & guide

6x Harlequins all w. kiss (incl. troop master & shadow seer)

3x Guardian jetbike w. shuriken cannon
3x Guardian jetbike w. shuriken cannon
3x Guardian jetbike w. shuriken cannon

4x Shining Spears w. exarch (shuriken cannon, withdraw, star lance)

Super Falcon

10 scoring units total at 2000 points

Hey GBF, I like the effort you put into the armies and the display tray and the books and such, but I really think your efforts fell short. If you really wanted to get your Dawn of War theme across, you should have hired C.S. Goto to stand by your army and read the trilogy to every passerby. That would have good enough for me. Maybe next year you can try just a little harder.

Oh yeah, we need batreps.

Round One

The first game was against another hybrid team (very nice looking armies) whose theme was eldar prior to their fall. They used Chaos and eldar to build their lists. The Chaos was modeled to look like eldar of course! There was an even split this round:

Blood Ravens #1 & Bieltan vs. Chaos & eldar

Adepticon had plenty of terrain this year... typically featuring two buildings/ruins, three hills and three wooded sectors per table. I believe this mission had 12" deployment zones across both long table edges. To be honest I can't remember who won the rolls to pick deployment zones and who went first. I believe the primary objective was to hold an objective marker located near the center of the table... it scattered around 6 - 8" to our right which was fine since we had a lot of units fairly close to it.

I deployed the bulk of my army (three tactical squads and Devs) in a wooded area located in the center of our deployment zone. I hid the landspeeder and held the terminators in reserve. My partner (who had shaved off his mohawk ) deployed his entire army hidden behind terrain with the pathfinders in the woods with my Marines.

Anyways here is what I can remember that our opponents fielded:

Chaos
Sorceror w. MoS and wings

6x Noise Marines w. blast master
6x Noise Marines w. blast master

2x (6x Raptors w. champion)

The rest I forget unfortunately.

Anyways this game came down to the opponents trying to take out the brick of Space Marines in the woods and they made the mistake of launching assaults one unit at a time. One squad of Marines would be charged then the rest would counter charge the next turn and wipe out the enemy unit. My terminators came in early and were monsters in close combat. We also had plenty of great shooting throughout the game and won by a massacre. Our other two team mates got by with a draw.

I remember the last two games very well and the second round is a bit less fuzzy than this one.

The second round was against an all eldar team and they most certainly had beautifully painted armies. I was assigned to play with the Ultwhe player from my team. The opponents from the team we faced had a nice mix of units with a couple of Super Falcons, two units of Harlies and Yriel for one of the two HQ. This mission again had the 12" deployment zone across the long table edges and the terrain was quite similar to the table from the 1st game... probably because I was on the same table!

This round the first three turns were tight but then one of the opponents decided to send in his Harlequins alone against my brick of Space Marines (all deployed as a group again in the same wooded terrain). I try to keep each squad of Space Marines spread such that the opponent will need a 4+ massacre roll to consolidate into another unit. The Harlequins had a terrible roll for fleet (1") and were only able to get a couple clowns into the kill zone. My Marines passed their break check then I bum rush the Harlies the next turn with the rest of the brick and that was that. Next the same opponent decided to run Yriel unsupported into the brick but again another horrid roll for fleet and his roll for difficult terrain into the woods fell short. The Iyanden prince missed reaching assault by a couple inches and was shot out of his boots during our next shooting phase.

My partner and I did an excellent job keeping the enemy Falcons shaken to prevent them from shooting and by the end of the game that was all they had left... another massacre.

The third round was when things started to get interesting. This time I was paired up with the other Blood Ravens player. The team we faced had brought their armies they play locally - IG/BA/Nids/???. Anyways we were facing off against the IG/Nids combo. I did not realize they were just playing their regular armies that they always game with back home and asked if they were doing a genestealer cult list. They then told me it was just a mix of what they always play. I thought that was cool that Adepticon could draw gamers for the team event that just wanted to get in some games. I can remember their lists better than the first two rounds so here they are:

Nids
Flyrant
1x Gunfex
1x Dakkafex

10x genestealers
10x genestealers

(some other bugs)

IG
Lots of small drop teams with tonnes O plasma
2x Leman Russ
Hellhound

(some other IG stuff)

The major objective was to hold an objective in the center of the table with an HQ. The secondary objective was to control more allied table quarters and the tertiary was VPs. Deployment was diagonal table quarters.

My team mate and I both held our terminator command squads in reserve and set up our Marines close to the middle of the table. My HB Devs had excellent LOS into the opponents' table quarter which forced them to deploy the two packs of genestealers deep within their deployment zone behind terrain. Our landspeeders set up behind intervening terrain but and would be very useful to take out the IG drop teams (Deep Strike was a mission rule).

Early in the game we were able to destroy one of the two Leman Russ' battle cannon and keep the other one shaken until we could destroy both of them. I believe the two Leman Russ may have killed a couple of Space Marines in total. The two carnifexen were deployed at the front of the opponent's table quarter and used a hill to block LOS for the first turn but as they moved into shooting range all those SM lascannons (6 total) and missile launchers were able to drop a couple wounds on both of them. My terminators arrived on turn two and came on in front of all the Marines so as to be in a good position to take the central objective. My team mate's terminators came in on our flank and later moved towards the carnifexen to keep them out of our gun line. The flyrant had to come out in the open for a turn before it could charge and with all our combined shooting I just managed to drop it with my last lascannon... the beast would have definitely done some damage if it had reached my terminators. The drop teams starting popping in and smoked all the terminators accompanying my team mate's Librarian. Two came in right by my terminators and caused around six wounds... I rolled the invulnerable saves and only lost one terminator. We then shot the hell out of the drop teams but for some reason neglected to shoot the largest drop team beside my terminators. The drop team rapid fired again and caused around four more wounds. Again I rolled the dice for my invulnerable saves and made them all. That would have been a horrible mistake if they had dropped my terminators below scoring since you had to have an HQ hold the central objective. My partner's Librarian steamed through one drop team then finished off both of the carnifexen. The genestealers decided to make a run for our line and were gunned down by the HB Devs and our landspeeders. A side shot on the Hellhound dropped that too.

At the end of the game we had scored all the objectives plus bonus points. Our other team also had a massacre so I was looking forward to some tough competition in the last round.

LOL! You cannot take DC in a Blood Ravens army silly.

@ Darrian - Actually CS Goto was there but I think he was unfortunately eclipsed by the presence of Phil and Graham. Oh well maybe next year we can persuade Dan Abnett to stand beside our Gaunt's Ghosts display.

On to round four... we were up against Da Boys who went on to win best overall. The two gentlemen we played had excellent army lists that worked very well together. Several large mobs led by Warpheads, some trukks to put pressure on our gun line and Snikrot with friends. Snikrot was a thorn in our side to the least and more on that later. They also had a couple of lobba units manned by grots which are awesome for holding objectives... like I said Da Boys army lists were very well crafted!

It was a very competitive game on our table and I was teamed up with the Bieltan player again. The primary objective was kill points... something like 3 points per HQ, 2 points per units such as elites and 1 point per troop killed. I believe the secondary objective was table quarters and I don't remember what was the tertiary objective. The kill point system was very interesting and is rumored to be part of the upcoming V edition for mission rules. I believe that both teams did not focus on the primary objective as well as we could have and it made for some interesting results when we tallied up everything after it was all said and done. This mission had the diagonal zone across the table for deployment and we placed terrain as per the request of the Da Boys. I think my team won the roll to pick deployment zones and also who got to go first. I do remember that we picked to go first. There were two big pieces of terrain spread about a foot apart in the middle of the diagonal... this actually helped both teams - it helped Da Boys the first couple of turns since they had terrain to run the trukks behind but it also funneled their footing slogging mobs which slowed them down a bit, which I believe was a boon for our Dawn of War team later in the game since all those orks on foot got clustered and some of them ended trying to flank around.

I knew about Snikrot and there was not much I could do about it... either I could deploy the brick of Marines far enough away from the table edge to avoid being charged by the kommandos the turn they came in from reserve but then we would have the rest of the orks in our face by turn three. I opted to deploy back into our zone and hope that Snikrot did not come in until turn 3 or later. I also decided to start with the terminators on the table for more gun power and shooty killiness right from the start - that was a good decision and I placed them in front of the Marine brick over to our right. They could shoot into the mobs the first two turns then deal with the inevitable assaults later on. As it turned out the terminators got in three solid rounds of shooting (2nd turn, 3rd turn and 6th turn). The landspeeder was deployed over to the left of the Marine brick behind terrain. Eldar deployed to either flank of the brick.

The first turn everything that could shoot lined up their collective killing power and fired into a big mob of orks over on the other side of the deployment zone that had been placed out in the open. That mob got vaporized. Da Boys countered by running up their trukks behind terrain, one of which got immobilized when attempting to enter difficult terrain... that was a bit of luck for the Dawn of War since it slowed down the mob of boys since they would have to move through terrain to reach assaults.

The second turn we stood still for the most part and split our shooting into several enemy units... overall another good round of shooting but nothing was brought below scoring. Still when you are facing a massive horde of orks everyone you kill while shooting is one less you have to deal with while assaulting in close combat. The terminators opened up on a trukk and destroyed it... the orks fell out and opted to hide behind the wreckage. Then it was Da Boys turn and sure enough in came Snikrot with his kommandos (2x burna) and they charged the HB toting Devastators killing them to the man and then consolidated into a squad of tactical Marines. The orks behind the trukk rolled low for difficult terrain while moving through the wrecked trukk and were not in charge range of my terminators... thank the Emperor for small miracles. I reckon my partner and I made a couple of mistakes over the course of the game and the first one was not disembarking the squad of Dire Avengers out of their Wave Serpent. The Wave Serpent was immobilized by ork shooting and the Dire Avengers had to disembark penned to the spot... that was a lot of shooting that went right down the drain. Another mob of orks charge the Wave Serpent and destroyed it with a power klaw. Luckily for us it was a penetrating 6 and a lot of orks were killed in the ensuing explosion... heh! Also one of the warpheads was able to teleport its mob and they landed to the left of my Marine brick.

The third turn everything that we could shoot except for the terminators and one tactical squad opened up on the teleporting mob of orks and again we vaporized them. The terminators backed up and fired into the mob of trukk boyz that had gotten caught out in the wrecked trukk and finished them off. At this point the Dawn of War was in between the devil and the deep blue sea... Snikrot was on a rampage in our back line and there was still two or three mobs of trukk boys pressing into our front. I opted to charge the tactical squad with a power fist into Snikrot's kommandos... 16 attacks total and I believe we managed to drop one or orks... Snikrot and the boys were hot killing another squad of Marines and the other squad broke and fled off the table. The brick had been penetrated and things were not looking so good for the Dawn of War. Oh well. The Da Boys turn a trukk full of three nobs in mega armor charge into the Dire Avengers while the foot sloggers Waaagh and roll up closer but still not within assault range... except for one foot slogging mob that does make contact with my terminators. Da Boys place the power klaw in b2b contact with my librarian so the rest of the terminators have a field day versus the rest of the mob while my Librarian easily passes all his 4+ invulnerable save (Storm Shield plus adamantium plus Veil of Time is the sickness) and drops around three orks per turn of close combat. The Dire Avengers get stomped and the mega armored nobs consolidate into another squad of tactical Marines.

Top of turn four the Harlequins disembark and the super Falcon moves into LOS of another large mob joined by the landspeeder. We shoot up the mob and they are around half strength. The rest of my army is in close combat and the Pathfinders drop back. The Harlequins charge the nobs and vaporize them then consolidate into Snikrot and his kommandos. The terminators continue to mulch through the ork mob. Da Boys turn see the last two mobs moving up but still too far away from the action to assault. The orks have some nice shooting and immobilize the super Falcon. The Harlequins are the one unit on the DoW side that finally manage to inflict some damage into Snikrot and his boys but the kommandos do some damage in return. Harlequins win the combat but Snikrot passes the leadership test... double drat! Harlequins use H&R and move out of assault.

Top of turn five the landspeeder opens up on the half size mob and blast around six to seven off the table... they are below scoring and no longer a real threat. Harlequins assault remainder of ork mob in close combat with terminators - Blood Ravens and Eldar super team up finishes off the mob. Harlequins consolidate into Snikrot and his kommandos again. Terminators cannot reach Snikrots boys and amble over to the left. Da Boys don't have much to shoot with anymore and only two mob lefts that are both outside assault range. There has been a whole lot of killing going with not much left on the table. Da Boys turn more close combat and Harlequins are finished off by remainder of Snikrot's squad. This turn I made my mistake by suggesting that the farseer join the last of the Harlequins to help finish off Snikrot but he bounces and the Harlequins cannot do enough damage and are killed while the farseer breaks and will not be able to regroup the last turn and flees off the table.

Turn six the downed Falcon and landspeeder plus pathfinders kill off the second to last mob. Terminators vaporize the last of the evil and much hated Snikrot... what is left of the DoW team shout out with a cry of joy! Da Boys destroy the landspeeder during their turn and the game is over. We add up all the kill points and we are dead even at 14 apiece. If I had left the farseer out of close combat or the Dire Avengers got in one good turn of shooting we could have won the primary objective... oh well, hindsight is always 20/20.

Great game and an excellent end to the TT.
