Only a small problem, but still annoying.

When I post I get a little american Flag beside my name. While I have nothing against the American flag, I'm Canadian, and I can't figure out how to change that flag.

I have a suspicion it's not something I can set, but comes from where we signed up, since I signed up while at work, which routes through Virginia.

Anyways, is this something I can change, or do I have to make puppydog eyes at an admin to get it fixed?

The flag is set on a post-by-post basis, depending on where your ISP is based or routed. Any posts that go through a US company or ISP (including VPNs) will get a US flag. The flag detection is about 99.5% accurate, so we get the occasional member with the wrong flag but unless we want to pay tens of thousands of dollars for better location detection software then we dont get a choice. We have a few US users who have canadian flags too, and most dakka users are aware that the flags are just a guide to a user's location... setting your 'location' options in your profile (as you have done) will prevent people from assuming you are from the US.

Well, I'm in Australia and dakka seems to think I'm a yank.
Australia is a Little bit further away from the U.S. than Canada.

Oh, well. I suppose It doesn't matter as long dakka knows I'm not from kazakhstan

The US is the default option if it cant figure out where you are from. Your IP address looks like it was recently released to your ISP, so it cant figure out where you are because it doesnt know. Your flag should be updated correctly within a year or so though. You'll be fine anyway because you can spell things properly with all the U's that real English requires

Uh-huh. Funny thing was that dakka USED to know I was from Australia, before firefox got an update. Dakka also used to demand that I re-open firefox every time i clicked on a new page, but the firefox update fixed that. Do you think the flag thing could be my browser's fault?

Nope, your browser wouldnt affect your IP address unless you were using a proxy server before (or are now). I looked it up specifically - your IP address is quite newly allocated to your ISP and so it will be a while before it is correctly detected. Having your location actually specified in your profile's 'location' field will remove any doubt from people's minds.
