Very good stuff. Also, thanks for pointing out to me that the Masters don't have their heads stuck, I didn't buy them because I thought they were modelled on (and I am tired of bald marines).

You know, I usually pass over most SM armies after seeing a few thousand, but these are looking top notch thus far. Your brush work is very impressive. I like them!

Eisenhorn: I will take a photo of him when I get home tonight. He's a Tyranid Hunter with emporers champion sword.

Sturnreaper & Teek: Thanks...

Darkness: Although they are out of focus and not finished yet... lol, thanks

----------

I decided to paint the remaining 2 masters of the chapter heads and took some photos of the process:

1. I did 2-3 thin watered down layers of tanned flesh over the skin areas (Tanned flesh is not this bright, for some reason my flash made it too bright)

2. Here I washed the recesses with watered down flesh wash.. (namely under the lip, under the nose, under the eyes, ears, neck, dimples, cheek lines, metal rivets, etc)

3. Using a horizontal stroke I added the eyes and upper set of teeth to the head with his mouth open

4. Dotted eyes

5. Mixed 1:1 tanned flesh with dwarf flesh and did 1 thin layer over main skin areas, leaving a little of the foundation to show. I also cleaned up the wash during this stage so it's not so messy

6. Mixed 1:1 dwarf flesh with elf flesh to highlight areas of the face (upper lip, nose, eyebrows, forehead/brow, upper cheekbones, chin)

7. Mixed 1:1 elf flesh with skull white to add extreme highlight to previous highlights

8. Cleaned up model with chaos black and painted in metal parts, bionic eye lens, rivets on their forehead, etc)

9. Mounted to the bodies

Enjoy

I plan to finish up the arms later tonight

As for their backpacks I am waiting on my bits order of commander eagle backpacks to come in so those will have to wait

I hate to be a downer when it comes to such great work, but am I the only one who finds those heads a little. . . well, creepy and unheroic? Maybe it's the eyeshadow.

I think it's the heads themselves, they're boring. The plastic Space Marine Sargeant head (you know, the one in the old tactical squad sprue) has a lot more character. Any that was done by JG do.

EDIT: I miss the "Clint Eastwood" head.

Nice models all around (faces aside--and I guess it probably is the sculpt). The Captain is fantastic!

I had left out some minor details (Gems, one master's key, leather highlights on bolter strap and the thunderhammers leather hook) and was working on them this morning...
I'm leaving for Asia for a month and a half so I won't have time to finish their commander eagle backpacks (they are still on order)

Anyway here they are

Master 2

Master 3

Modell Collector: Thanks I plan to work on my tau fire warriors while I am in Asia. I'm bringing my stuff to paint! I have 36 painted but they were stored away in their army transport case

Eisen: Thanks... My captain is a metal model. It's a mix of the emporers champion and tyranid war veteran.

Bart: Thanks I'd say between 12-15 hours. It took me about 2-3 days painting them. The bases are from Micro Art Studio. They are resin cast and the guy has a ton of them!

Really nice painting! My only "slight" criticism is that, as Ultramarine Chapter Masters, they would follow Index Astartes color doctrines. Each of these minis should (fluffwise) have their shoulder trim and insignia match the company that they head. The use of the gold shoulder trim would only be appropriate for the second company (yellow, either as yellow, or represented with gold).

If these guys are Ultras, they would be pretty strict about the insignia.

Very very cool indeed. Interestingly enough, in the nearly 20 years of playing 40K, I've not seen an Ultramarine army built in such size and quality. Thank you for posting pics of a fantastic looking army.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Amazing.

Really, at a loss for what else to say... Lots of people think the Ultramarines are cool, but you sir, you LOVE them. It's rare to see someone really get into a hobby with that kind of fervent energy, and you've done an amazing job. GW may have created the SMurfs, but you've made this batch truly your own. Wow.

a.) I love the Storm Shield front plate on that Dreadnaught. I'm stealing that.

b.) The `Nid war vet serge looks like he's compensating for something.

c.) You clearly do not have enough marines yet. Go buy more. I mean NOW!!
