America... Feth Yeah!

I'm planning on making a Necron army, but I want them to be different, and I thought of a background during a nap one day. So, is this Necron background possible in your opinion.

In the distant future, the soul lacking, mindless Necrons sweep across the galaxy harvesting souls for their C'tan masters. One force of these metal monstrousities strayed deep into Imeprial territory, killing hundreds. Then, on the horizon of a bloody battlefield appeared the Emperor Of Mankind, backed by one hundred Priests of the Imperium. With a wave of the Emperor's clothed hand the priests began to chant, whisps of light bursting from the sky and piercing the metal skin of the collasol Necron army. The monsters collapsed to their knees and the Emperor cried out, his voice like a thousand golden bells ripping through the empty air.

"I have given you all two gifts. I have given you the gift of soul, and the gift of mind. Fresh and all your own, they are the cursed gifts that shall destroy you all." With that, he turned, and disappeared. The Necrons cried out, their acts flooding into their new minds. Some died in the horror, but others rose against it and became The Redeemers. Now devoted to gaining forgiveness for the terrors they had unleashed, they fight against all races to defend all races. Confused and lost, the army has disappeared within hoods and cloaks which hide their terrifying metal appearances as they move about the universe, watching from the shadows.

So that's basically it. I'm gonna be working for the next year with green stuff and these Necrons and building, hooded, clothed Necrons who are beginning to regain their humanity. What do you think, could I get away with this background for possible future Games Workshop tournaments?

When were the Necrons ever human? How can they regain something they've never had (humanity)? From the fluff from the Codex, the Necrontyr were a pretty appalling species, consumed with bitterness and envy of the other races to the point of psychopathy. When they cut their deal with the C'Tan, it wasn't because they were nice guys; it's more like having the Klingons sell their souls to the Q Continuum, if the Q ate people.

Besides, I don't think the Emperor ever laid eyes on a Necron.

Fluff-wise, it's a desperate clawing for some kind of substance where there is none to be found in the annals of logic and reason, but. . .it's your army. If you don't mind the fluff monsters giving you flak over the background, I say roll with it. I'd like to see shrouded Necrons with cloaks and capes and pants, so please post pics when you've got these guys done.

Alright, thanks for the insight, I was going to paint my necrons a little differently for the fluff, but it wasn't a big part of the over all color scheme. I'll just change a few things and make a different background, I mostly just wanted the shrouded look.

Maybe he has the memories of the Necrontyr coming back up inside him. It could be used, but maybe a slightly different back drop. Theres no no for any army conversions as long as you have a good reason, like Inquisitorial Tyranids.

You could just have cloaked and shrouded Necrons and say it's an army of the Dragon or Outsider (at least until anything official about them comes along and ruins it). Alternatively you could just say it's some obscure and freaking plan of the Deceiver that no one (even you?) quite understands.

All valid and generous ideas, thanks. I'll have to look up that Dragon or Outsider thing but overrall I think I'm just gonna go with the Deceiver granting the general mind enough to use more... 'stealthy' tactics rather than the usual, point charge shoot. I'm also thinking of trying a sorceror conversion with a few difficult modifications to a necron warrior and some careful use of green stuff. That won't be until I get the actual army working. I'm thinking of a ragged, slightly mummified necron floating with his arms out, palms down, and the gauss from the gun being shaved down into splinters to make little bursts of powers from his hands. We'll see how that goes in a month or so.

Again, thanks for ideas.

Hmm, after doing some reading I'll most likely model the army to follow The Outsider, taking on some of his more... insane, traits. If I ever get the sorceror conversion going, I'll proably make an army more suited to the Void Dragon, because it's mentioned that the followers of the Void Dragon threw lightning rather than the Gauss weapons they have now.

I'll proabably buy a Harlequin or two and somehow take its mask and put it on my Necron Lord and perhaps add patches of checkered cloth to the cloaks of my warriors. Little war trophies since the Harlequins and The Outsider are hated. Also, with a hint that The Outsider is named so because he's outside the galaxy, the shrouded-ness will play so much better. Yay for literacy!

Edit: I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do about scarabs. They seem a little indispensible... any ideas on how I could convert them to better fit?

Maybe you could mummify the scarabs with green stuff? I really like the idea of cloaked Necrons, it makes them even more mysterious than they already are!

And heaven forbid if the Marine would also happen to have an intimidating looking, vertical scar. Then you're surly boned. Those guys are the worst. Not a chance I'd say.

It's your army, as people have said, do what you want.

However, to answer your question, no, that fluff really doesn't make much sense. I'm pretty sure the Imperium never encountered Necrons before the Horus Heresy.

hahahhhhahahah this is so funny!

i like the fluff but it really doesn't work, i think you can figure out a way to deal with this and can edit it to make it a bit different. maybe a psyker's willpower, or spell, or somethiing?
