What's the best deal you ever got off Ebay?
For me, it was a Forge World Dreadnought for 18 bucks after shipping.

Foud some rare unreleased Epic Exodite miniatures in an auction given by an unsuspecting seller.
Got rare MOW miniatures the same way.
It's amazing what you can find if you broaden your search.

when I first got into the hobby I got a couple deals off of Ebay for something like $300 inc shipping. I got a wide range of models I was going to buy anyway (for that price) + a carrying case, a bunch of extra Warlocks, D-Cannons, Dark Reapers, etc, etc. And around 30+ second rate guardians that have been cannibalized for bits numerous times.
all in all, much happy.

IMO, eBay isn't the buyers market it used to be. Summer is a good time to buy, but most of the sellers of used stuff stop selling until fall. With eBay though, the more you buy, the more you save.
While it's frustrating to shop at, the best deals are on Bartertown. I once got a full 5th ed Wood Elf army for $80, a 12lb box of bits for $50 (including stuff I sold for over $150), and a giant 2nd ed 40k collection for $265. It included old nids, marines and eldar, old books and codices, etc. Great stuff.

Bits are hard to come by in Australia as we never had a bitz service and saves having to buy whole boxes.

I got an armourcast gargant on ebay for about $250 a couple years ago. It was primed, and not 'new-in-box'- but considering they routinely go for over $500, that's probably my best score.

about 7 or 9 years ago i found an auction labeled "Space Miniatures" with an opening bid of $80 and I was the only person who bid. it had 100 old metal Citadel figures in it including: 6 original Chaos Terminators (the ones before the trophy rack ones), 2 metal terminator inquisitors, 2 non terminator inquisitors, a bunch of Brats, Tech Gang and Scavvy minis from Confrontation (precursor to Necromunda), 8 Lost and the Damned/Slaves to Darkness era Chaos Space Marines, about 20 metal Rouge trader era Space Marines, some old Eldar, Leman Russ (the Primarch), and a bunch more stuff.

I beg to differ.
I spend a LOT of time on Bartertown, and I come across great deals all the time.
Fifty percent off is not an uncommon occurance there. Even for whole armies.
I built a 3000+ point SM army from 95% Bartertown trades/purchases (all new, unpainted, unassembled) and about 5% ebay or online retailers. I spent/traded about 65% retail. Took me about 6 months, as I bought it piece by piece... but the deals were all there (regularly).

MM: I mispoke a bit. There are deals to be had on B-town regularly, but firesales are still relatively uncommon (but exist as well). B-town is great for what it tries to do: match traders and faciliatate deals. It's a swap meet, and there are great trades to be made. there is a lot of chaff however (although the noise ratio is going up on eBay as well), but that's a natural result of being able to post listings for free.
I'd never steer anyone away from Btown, it's just that it can be frustrating from time to time.

When my friend bought almost every possible game system for a measly $200. This is including those very old systems. Pity the seller's boyfriend found out, they had to cancel the sale.

First getting into Tau I got a D-Fish and 12 Firewarriors for something like $25 including shipping, and the fish had the Forgeworld Gubbins on it!
The best deal ever though was one that I went in on with a friend. $300 bought a huge lot that was advertised as "Warhammer Figures". We got:
A Tau Army
A Chaos Space Marine Army
A Tomb Kings Army
A Lord of the Rings Harad Army
Carrying Cases, battlefield accessories, bits and bits and bits
Seriously, it was heaven-sent. My share bought me the Tau army. I waited and waited, and finally, on the day I thought it would come I called my friend to see if it had arrived, and he said no. I was super bummed until I went home and found an entire Tau army laid out on my counter top!
(My wife still makes fun of me, apparently I "shoved past her" in my enthusiasm to get to the minis. I maintain that I stepped around her in a perfectly gentlemanly fashion.)
I got about 48 firewarriors, 48 kroot, 3 Hammerheads, a Devilfish, 3 or 4 suits, and a broadside, for my $100 that I threw in. That was really exciting because it was my first army getting back into the hobby.
The only thing was, I've learned since that buying used is a mixed bag. The amount of cleanup, stripping, disassembling and reassembling almost made it not worthwhile...

Orlanth has got me beat, but I'll throw my story out there! I got and eldar and an orc army for $100, split between me and a buddy. I ended up buying out his half (the orcs). All the orcs were RT originals and the eldars were 2nd eds.

4 Hawks w/ Exarch
3 Dark Reapers w/ exarch (web of skulls)
12 or so guardians (plastics, with one metal RT era)
3 Harlequins
2 brightlance platforms w/ crew
A warwalker and a lone wraithlord
The orks list is huge (posted in trades forum... I'm not selling it anymore) and included an original Rogue Trader era plastic battle wagon that I stupidly sold for $20 to the guy who runs the FLGS...
All the models had been painted years ago by a crack team of monkeys flinging god knows what at them, but came clean (relatively) enough to paint again. Best $50 I spent on the hobby.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I was lucky enough to get a 2nd Ed shokk attack gun at the opening bid last Christmas. The auction was mispelled, which I think is why I got it.
Nice suprise, the postage cost me more than the model. IIRC £2.50 all inclusive.

Mine is probably a pretty much complete fully painted Man O War collection for £750, had every fleet, including a constructed Undead one, and after playing the odd game over a year, I realised I didn't have the time or space to keep it, so broke them down into fleet lots, rules, terrain etc and sold the lot for just shy of £2500, so a worthy investment.
