I have a small force of Guard that i have been playing with lately.
Barely enough for 1500pt games. I decided to expand on my forces with
some Daemonhunters. I got the Inquistor pack for Fathers day and
recently got a set of GK Terminators for my birthday. Problem is.. i
dont know what is the best way to play with guys and my Guard. Any
advice for a newbie like myself? My usual games are 1500pts. I am also
going to put a 2000pt list together soon....

help.

Here is what my guard consists of.

Enough guardsmen for two platoons
2 commisars
6 HW (2 Autocannon, 2 Heavy Bolters, 2 Lascannons)
10 Stormtroopers
30 Catachan that i use for Veterans
Colonel Schaeffer and his Last Chancers (boxed set)

2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks
1 Basilisk

and some scattered extra models .. like snipers and Officers..

thanks.
looking forward to some good ideas

Uh platoons vary from 25-60 men. I have no idea what enough guardsmen for 2 platoons means.

Here is a quick 1500 pt list though

Doctrines: Grenadiers, Camoeline

Command Platoon @ 50 pts
5 Grey Knight Terminators /w Incinerator @ 260 pts

5 Veterans w/ 3 Meltaguns @ 85 pts

10 Grenadiers w/ 2 Plasma @ 120 pts

Infantry Platoon
-Command Squad @ 50 pts
-Infantry Squad w/ LC & PG @ 105 pts
-Infantry Squad w/ LC & PG @ 105 pts
-Infantry Squad w/ AC & PG @ 95 pts
-Infantry Squad w/ AC & PG @ 95 pts
-Infantry Squad w/ HB & PG @ 90 pts

Leman Russ w/ LC @ 155 pts
Leman Russ w/ LC @ 155 pts
Bassy w/ Indirect @ 125 pts

Total is 1490.

Not a great list but not horrible. Hide the command squads if the game is kill points. Very light on numbers but you do have 3 pie plates. Add another platoon for 2000 pts.

You could try flamers in some of the squads.

The main thing is you need to go out and buy a lot more lascannons. Heavy weapons in general.

Unless you are going with a HQ/Elites/FA/Heavy army with minimal troops (so your points go to non-troops selections) you pretty much never want to run Grenadiers.

Not good for a new player anyway.

DH Termies should have psycannons.

IG infantry platoons should have las or autocannons.
The LR should have 3xhb.

Don't play bassies.

You can run alot of LC specialists and elite vets, toss in a few hellhounds (or apparently sentinel squadrons with heavy flamers) and you have a very nasty list.

However, LC are expensive. DH Termies are very expensive.

What kind of army do you want to run?

IG are about the only army where mixing mech and non-mech works out allright.

They are a excellent gunline army.

Flamers + lascannons don't mix.

And those are my random thoughts.

Thanks for the advice. I am pretty much stuck with what i have for the time being. I was thinking of adding a Hellhound for my next gift. (i got kids, very expensive)..

My army is a heavy on the shooting. I am happy with that. But i wanted something to help with CC. Not sure if this is going to help much.. but maybe they can pose some sort of threat.

How would you guys Use them in your army? I dont want to use my Termies or Inq. wrong and have a major waste of points.

GK termies are fine for a counterattack unit.

People who have faced them before know not to with the dragon.

If you want to have a amusing Inq, make it a WH inq. Give it a chirurgeon and hammer of the witches...and anything else you want to--gun servitors with heavy bolters are easy to fix up. It really cripples psyker heavy armies, which are quite prevalent.

Oh and never use vets in 10 man squads. 5 man only.

Hellhounds are great for a straight up IG army, but they're not a unit you can induct into a DH army. You might be able to get away with using them as "counts as" Immolators in a WH army, though.

Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

I'd buy more lascannons before you buy a hellhound. 2 at 1000+ is not enough.
