So I was asked to post this, and include my tactics with it.

1 Big Mek @ 90 Pts
Choppa; Kustom Force Field; Stikkbombs; Furious Charge; Mob Rule; Waaagh!; Bosspole; Mek's Tools
Big mek goes with the Gretchin. At a minimum this unit will always have a 4+ save (5+ from the KFF, +1 from going to ground since this unit never does anything). This gives me guaranteed terrain for my Lootas, basically, so they have a 4+ save.
If they do get shot at, they have a re-rollable 8 and it only costs 1 grot, not D3 like from the Runtherd.

Lootas just sit in area terrain or behind the grots, and blast away. I could care less if someone gets a 4+ cover save.

These are my heavy tank killers. 4xS9 on the charge does the trick.
I also use them to double up on an enemy squad and kill it.
Avoid Plague Marines, they make Orks cry.

Mobile firepower. They sit back and shoot, come on from the table edge and shoot.
I've found lootas are an excellent firebase, but the warbuggies complete the transformation from almost shoot to very shooty.

That's about it really. It's simple enough. It's competitive. And it doesn't bore, like a horde does.
It's also got some fragility to it, and if you aren't good with it--you'll find that out soon enough.
