Do you all have any songs that have some kind of emotional resonance to you? I'm not saying songs you just like, in fact, you might not even like the type of thing I'm asking....Are there any songs that you hear, sit back, and say " Wow, that is really something I can empathize with."

For me it would be "Reeling in the Years" by Steely Dan or "Taxi" by Harry Chapin

How about you?

Anything The Smiths ever recorded.

Common People by Pulp is probably it for me though, it's an anthem and perfectly encapsulates the effect of class on someone's life in Britain. Underwear, also by Pulp, has a ressonance too.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

I would say one of the biggest for me is

Wont back down. I like Johnny Cash's version over Tom Pettys.

i would have to say (prepare yourself for this) Adore by Smashing Pumpkins (I know it was a generally crappy album with a lot of experimentation), Siamese Dream, and Corgan's solo album, The Future Embrace. Orgy -Vapor Transmission, Gary Numan - My Jesus, Me I Disconnect From You, I Die You Die, Metal, Films. Kraftwerk - We Are the Robots. I listened to a lot when I was younger, but have started to get into the last 2 a lot more since being out of highschool.

Adore's not surprising to me. That song's tied to a lot of my HS memories. My GF in HS used to love that song, so it's pretty much associated with a lot of my memories of her.

Most of the Iron Maiden albums from the 80's and 90's have an emotional effect on me as well as some of the Sex Pistols stuff. My dad used to play that stuff to me when I was younger.

Also Devildriver's I Dreamed I Died has an impact on me, since that was the song playing on my Ipod when to my friend's bewilderment I walked out in front of a 44 ton lorry.. I have a fear of lorries now >.<

I think the new song "Handelbars" by Flobots tweaks a little something in me emotionally, but also "Pride and Joy" by SRV, (Go figure I made sure these were also my daughter's initials) and when I play my Wolves I like to play Zepplin's "Immigrant Song" over and over and over....

Actually lifeafter I meant the whole album, not just that specific song.

Well, the song is increibly bad, but it has emotional resonance for me because it was all over the radio when I met my wife:

"Complicated" - Avril Lavigne. I actually bought it on import in the UK because it reminded me so much of my good time vacatioing in the US

Pure Morning by Placebo (my fave band) is a song that I have to stop and soak in. reminds me of school, college all that fun stuff

And lately, I swear I'm being haunted by Jounrey, mostly "Don't Stop Believin" I seriously cannot go anywhwere without that song being played, it's really creeping me out.

Guess what song just started on the Radio while I type?

"Just a small town girl, livin' in a LONELY WUUUUUUUURLD...

Gathering the Informations.

I found a bunch of old CDs my friends had burnt for me back when I was broke and didn't have good internets to download stuff.
Been enjoying Everclear, Eve 6, Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional o_O.

It puzzles me that I'm enjoying them, because usually I have Dropkick Murphys/Flogging Molly blasting my eardrums.

Perfect Day by Lou Reed as a downer. Used to be the last song I'd listen to whilst drinking at home before hitting the uni bar on a friday night. Would settle me down fantastically.

She's the one by Robbie Williams as an upper. The last 45 seconds ro so lift me right up every time.

Anything by Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash. Memories of trips in the van carting the motorcycles with mom and dad to the next race or just dirt biking. I miss my dad.

Flying High, LA Woman, Appetite for Destruction CD, ah memories of youth.

The Tale of Don Gato (kids song) memories of carting my own kids around when they were a good bit younger (and cuter), Zantar, Genghis Connie, and She Who Must Be Obeyed yodeling as we were driving somewhere.

Of course, as a storm is coming right me as I type, Bad Moon Rising by CCR.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG

Anything by Cannibal Corpse. Back when they first came out, I was suffering from a helluva lot of stress from every direction. Listening to that death-thrash with their gory, violent lyrics helped me get the violent thoughts that were percolating around in my brain out of my system. It's because of death metal that I maintain a stable and relatively non-violent life to this day. Also, I am a closet Fleetwood Mac fan. Go figure.

"Winter" by Tori Amos always gets me. It has a lot to do with childhood disillusionment and nostalgia. "Omerta" by Katatonia has a similar effect for the same reasons.

"Sacrament of Wilderness" by Nightwish always hypes me up. I just can't hold still while that song is playing.

"Block Rock'n Beats" by The Chemical Brothers gives me flash backs to the days where Lormax, some of our friends and I used to go play laser tag twice a week for an entire summer. Apparently the place only had one CD and that song was near the beginning of it. There was also a Daft Punk song on there that I remember well but I don't know the name off hand.

"O Fortuna" originally set to music by Carl Orff is another one that always gets a response from me. It usually makes me feel brave and excited but in a serious way. I've heart lots of different renditions of the piece over the years from the original classical setting, to the more metaled out versions by Therion or the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, to even techno vesions.

Well, Pink Floyd's Shine on crazy diamond in the live version always knocks me out.

I also always get a shiver down my spine, everytime I hear the Intro music to the Wind Waker. That classic Zelda played by that old instrument, and then the cellos start. Always gets me

Damn double post. Might as well make it useful.

I paint while listening to Goldfrapp. It calms me down.
