So this is my first time posting pics of my models on Dakka (as far as I can remember). I have been building this force for awhile and I'm almost done with the build phase so I am ready to start painting. I have the first model just about complete, just a few more details needed. Let me know what you think and look for a project log to start soon.

So basically I bought about 40 Empire Flagellants back when they first came out for my long neglected Empire army. They sat, discarded for a couple years until I had the idea to start a competitive Imperial Guard army. I have long wanted to make an IG force and even started one with the metal Mordians a decade ago. I still had the tanks from that force (sold the models a while back). So I ordered some Catachan arms and tested them on the Flagellant bodies. The arms are ridiculously huge but they still looked pretty good and since I already had the bodies, I could bitz order the arms and the whole force will actually be pretty cheap. Plus, I could bitz order just the Flagellant torsos since I had a ton of bitz from the plastic kits I already bought. I then bought the Pig Iron renegade heads to finish off the models.

So I put together a 1,000 point IG army using Dakka's fantastic IG players to help me make a tough as nails force. The theme would be Slaanesh Renegade Guard with dark black robes and pale skin with the gas masks giving a bit of a S&M type feel. Enough talk, on to the models:

First, the test model. I ended up carving off the imperial eagle on the lasgun stock and I have created cityfight-style bases for all the models.

Here's another couple images:

Here is an undercoated model on his cityfight base:

First painted model, one of the Sergeants, about 90% finished:

And his base:

Finally, the Lieutenant who will eventually get Inq rules once the game gets larger than 1,000 points.

I need to find another arm for his left arm (the fantasy model has a shield, need a pistol or something). Any ideas?

C & C welcome!

I think this will look great as an army! The models really have a renegade look to them, but the lasguns keep the tie to their guard roots.

I'll be keeping an eye on progress here

I like the muted tones a lot, I think it fits the theme nicely.

But those gianormous arms really irk me. I know you can say they're all mutated to look like that, but just from an aesthetics point of view the arms just drive me nuts which is too bad because I love the rest of the model.

I seond the motion for a tentacle arm or some other mutation. He's a character so a 'gift' from Chaos is in order.

I love what you've got going so far. The arms do look a bit wonky in the front view pic but I'm betting you'd barely notice when looking at a full army of them. Can't wait to see more.

Very nice, great use of the new (ironpig?) heads.

Thanks for all the comments.

RE: the ginormous arms: I agree that they are ridiculous, probably Gary Morley sculpts... But, in a group they don't stand out as much as they do on a single model (the sergeant arms are the worst offenders) and there aren't any other bare-arm models that could work for the IG force.

I like the idea of a mutated left arm. I can't sculpt for gak so I'll have to modify one of the existing Chaos tentacle arms. I'm sure the spawn or possessed Chaos models have something I can use.

I'll post more updates soon, including a step by step of how I painted the model. I'm a slow painter but the new washes and foundation paints mean that the one above took less than an hour which is fantastic for me.

I'm sure I can get one of these arms to look good.

Maybe one of the tentacles on the bottom row there.

Just got one word, sweet!

Really cool way of making Renegades, I love the rag-tag feel of the Flagellant bodies
As for the arm choice, personally I like the one furthest to the left on the second row, where spikes and things have grown out of the normal arm

Very nice work here, the flagellant bits look amazing. I award you one gold star!

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

Tonight will be my first game with this new, 1,000 point force. Exactly one model is fully painted, but that's about normal for my armies...

I've done the black highlights on the rest of his squad, I'll post them soon.
