So what's the take? Is this game here to stay? There's some of the minis I've really been wowed by, and the pre-painted, although a turn-off at first is bringing me around. Let's me play it as a side game instead of more armies that I won't probably get a chance to paint.

I saw those preview pics of ONI (I think that's what they were). Anyone know anything about them? They look great.

If I was getting in to this thing, what all should I be getting? I'd probably prefer not to pay for the models in the starter box until I knew if I was going to rock one of those factions, but is there stuff in there I can't get otherwise? Or can I get by with rulebook only? What's the deal with the reversible tiles and terrain? And how 'necessary' are the campaign books (Damocles and Frostbite, right?)?

Thanks for any insight- and I'm sure this section gets more than enough of this kind of "I'm thinking of starting Game X." threads, so apologies all around.

Don't buy the starter. It's super-bum and doesn't actually come with THE rulebook.

Buy a rulebook, your faction book and then whatever models you like.

Depending on the army, there are things to avoid.

Also, this IS a game of powerful individual models. If you're not playing Red Blok, build an army that can kill Urod (or if doing Frostbite, 2 Urods).

If you're going to play Red Blok... buy 2 Urods and play the genetecist faction. It's probably the ardest army in the game right now.

Other than that... go with what you like.

Just make sure to avoid the starter. I bought it, and regret it.

I would start with this thread.

Definitely read the main rulebook before buying any units. You don't want to buy units you cant use because you don't have enough of X or too much of Y.

As achilles said, avoid the operation damocles boxes set like the plague.

alos, if you decide to go redblok, there is a trade thread in the swap area here that has Jojo monkeyboy selling his new Red blok stuff for 40% off. Good deal. I would have jumped on it if it wasnt for me already having 6000 AP of them already.

Thanks gentlemen. I'm a little embarrassed at not having dug for the the other thread first.

Is there any more info on ONI? Or whoever those guys are that have the cyborg TAC-arm hybrid?

And I do appreciate the pointers.

Start by joining the forums lots of info to take in thier http://en-forum.at-43.com/index.php

Also try finding Fan groups on yahoo like NEAT-43 we have a game night the first monday of the month you might find something like that in your area or a player willing to get you a demo.

I would suggest a real AT-43 rulebook thier is a free down load of the game rules but if your looking for fluff its not in that free download I really feel the story behind the game is very good and find it surprises people and really draws them in.

I have to say that I completely disagree on the previous post...

AT-43 is by NO means a game of Heroes, as matter of fact the most balanced armies do not necessarily have Named heroes (i.e. UROD). UROD is indeed a powerful hero but not invincible. some considerations about AT-43

1. AT-43 have a "normal" playing point range between 1500 - 2000 pts. At this range some AFV mounted heroes are between 500 and 550pts a big bite of the total points 33-25% of the total

2. AT-43 is OBJECTIVE based game (objective = victory points -VP- and reinforcement points -RP-), it does not really matter if you loose all your units if you have more VP you win no matter what since the game is OVER immediately once a force is 100% destroyed

3. AT-43 is NOT a game of stand back and shot, and is allways played better with enough terrain, thus TACTICS/army selection are more important than übercharacters

4. In this game you create your army list ONCE you know the mission, so each mission can be played with a tailor made army list.

About the Particular platoon of the Red Blok:

2 URODS will be in a normal pts (1500-2000) game be arround the 1100-1200 pts and you will have few points for SCORING units (1-3 maxed units approx) and against a good army (i.e. M.Ind) it may not be enough to capture enough VP and/or RP since AFV cannot capture objectives ...

I think a good UNA list could destroy 2 URODS with the better range and Missile Launchers and maybe evebn using AFV to camture objectives

Remember that type 3 AFV (Baal, Fire Crawler) can kill UROD in one salvo

What about Nina zero and 8 nucleus gun shots.... hyper nanonucleous??? bye bye Urod

I think a list with 2 URODS is not efficient and can be contrarrested would be better 2 Vrachovs in infantry for a 3rd medic for example or 2 Sgt Dragomira for 8 dragomirovs in 2 squads... or 2 Timofiyeva
