"A Swiss daredevil crossed the English Channel strapped to a homemade jet-propelled wing Friday."

Apparently he did not come within 1 inch of any UK residents when he landed, or they would have placed him back in Switzerland.

I will decide how impressed I am when I know where he started from. Orbit? Switzerland? French airspace? The 3-mile limit?
|
He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

Is this the guy who also drops out of hot air balloons with model jet engines strapped to his ankles? I remember reading about him.

I've seen this guy before. He's got a cool jet pack. Too bad it can't take off on it's own and requires a parachute to land. Still, it would be really cool to fly it.

EXALT.
I used to love that show. The sea guy was always my favorite, just because I thought his green exo-frame looked the coolest.

I saw one of those wing thingies at the Met in New York, in the "Superhero Fashion/Reality" exhibit. They had costumes from superhero movies, and then fashion inspired by them. But the cool part was the real-world devices that inspired the superhero gear, like squirrel suits (jumpsuits with wing membranes between arms/legs to glide with) and the fixed-wing thingies that this guy has here. We're talking about 6' wingspan, with two little jet engines and a chute strapped to the back. I cannot imagine how awesome that 2 minutes of flight would be, but spent lots of time thinking about it on the way home. When I strike it rich, one of those things is on the shopping list well ahead of the Vector with machine-gun headlights.
They also had the Iron Man suit from the movie. It was hands-down the coolest thing in the exhibit.
