I have two questions that maybe one dakkaite or another might be able to help me with:

Regarding Testor's Glosscote - just how glossy is it? The old (old) GW "matte" sealer used to be more of a semi-gloss, with a nice amount of shine without being really reflective. I miss that, and was wondering if Glosscote gave a similar sheen, or if it was really, really shiney.

Regarding GW Roughcoat - what's the off-brand equivilent for this? As I'm sure many of us know, there's equivilent or superior product out there for cheaper than what GW (re)markets the hobby supplies at; hot wire cutters, primer, super glue, etc. I was wondering what a generic spray texture like roughcoat is called, and where a good place to find it in the US would be.

I appreciate any help.

I can't give you the name for an equivalent to roughcoat, but any good home decor/ painting place should carry some form of a textured spray paint. Lowes or a Home Depot may carry something appropriate. Remember, you are looking for a textured spray, like a textured primer. Sprays like Fleckstone have gotten very popular lately are not what you are wanting, it's far too coarse and thick.

If you have an airbrush, Gunze matte clear is pretty flat. Though I hear Gunze may not be available in the US for much longer.

Should that happen, I've heard great things about Humbrol.

Never been a fan of Testors, it's more of a satin.

I know Walmart carries a line that has texture. An unfortunate oversight on my part led me to this discovery.....hehe.
