this came up at ard boyz.. but I let the issue slide.

if I have a unit of whatever shooting out of area terrain from more than 2" in, I understand that infantry would get a cover save.

but does the rule that forces vehicles and MC to be 50% obscured override this? so If you shoot a missile launcher from in the middle of a building and score a penetrating hit on something out in the open, do they get a cover save?

Thanks,

NaZ

No, the cover save is being provided by the guys firing out, so the MC or vehicle still gets it.

actually 50% of the actual model must be obscured. that means 50%+ of the model itself must be out of true line of sight to your unit. if it isnt they dont get a cover save.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

That only applies if the target is in area terrain, if the firer is more than 2" into area terrain then the target gets a cover save, regardless of unit type.

I think it does override this. Vehicles and MC's just always use the 50% rule. IMO, it makes it easy to get infantry saves and difficult to get MC and vehicle saves.

Good question. Trying to fire through a bunch of trees is hard, but if you are trying to fire at something huge it might be easier to hit.

RAW seems to me like the MC would not get a cover save.

HOWEVER, if I was playing a game against an oppenent with a MC I'd try and set up a house rule beforehand that states that the MC does get a cover save, at-1 the normal amount.

The vehicle/MC rules over ride, the only way to get a cover save is with 50% cover.

I go with the area rule overriding the vehicle rule.

The rule that makes the enemy get a cover save when firing through more than 2" of area terrain is the same one that makes them get the cover save if you are behind the terrain firing through, the rule that mentions 2" of area terrain is an exception to this.

So if you say the MC/vehicle gets a cover save for you firing from 3" inside area terrain then you should always give the MC or vehicle a cover save for being behind area terrain, even if not 50% obscured.

So it's quite clear in the rule book that you still need to have 50% of the target model blocked to get a save.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).
