My apologies if this has been covered previously but I couldn't find anything (or am just lazy! )

In a CSM army, do summoned lesser daemons count as scoring units? I would have said no (although infantry they do not take up a troop allocation) but someone at my gaming club insisted that they do - likewise, I have seen numerous army builds on the web which work on the basis of the daemons scoring.

Would be nice if they did - I'm running a Nurgle force which lacks somewhat in the scoring department!

Good guys go to heaven.

Bad guys send them there.

Simple answer, yes, summoned daemons can control an objective. Even tho they do not take up a Troop slot on the Force Org chart, they are still a Troop selection.

The rulebook states that Troops (as long as they’re not swarms or vehicles) can hold objectives.

The codex clearly states that lesser daemons count as Troops, though they don't count for purposes of filling up the Force Org chart.

This is particularly nice in the Ard Boyz and other high point-value games, since it gives CSMs way to get more scoring units into a list than other armies can.
