It's never been explained why Orks are so inaccurate. In terms of game balance it's fine, but what's the justification in the fluff?
|
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made. |

When Orks shoot, they're more focused on making more noise than their neighbor than actually aiming.

That doesn't mean that you can't also point it somewhere.

I can imagine some of them press the button when the gun is pointing down, or perhaps they discover it is funny if you shoot the dirt. "Oi! Boss, I made a pikcha ov Morka in da grownd! Oo' try!"

Sometimes they start shooting too soon and have to withdraw prematurely.

and sometimes their nob aint 'ard enough to shoot anything at all :(
but on a serious note i think its just because the orks dont make guns that hit things, they make guns that are loud/scary/look dangerous

ok heres what i think. 2 reasons they are SO inaccurate.
#1 they are near sighted. small beady eyes and no depth perception
#2 WAY over excited about getting into a good tussel to even THINK about aiming. just pop shooting is enough for them. besides its un orky like to stay back and shoot.

1. Get a semi automatic rifle
2. Find a target (ideally somewhere remote)
3. Run at the target
4. Scream WAAAAAAGH!!!
5. Fire from the hip as fast as you can
Then try again, only stand still (or lay prone), aim and fire slowly.
Compare the results

Not to mention Shootas probably have a ton of recoil. They're strength 4 just from the size that they are. A guardsmen with a shoota probably couldn't do much better.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me. |

More bullets = more noise
You shoot less bullets when you stop and actually aim.

dunno how itd work? oh well lemme explain in detail. they lower the poleaxe/gun in the fire position, then charge. while charging they continue to fire(hey hey perfect reason for terrible shooting skills) then continue running with the poleaxe/guns down so when they charge into the enemy lines, the swords/axes are already in the kill position. TADA!

Perhaps it's a subconcious choice? And they shoot inaccurately purposefully so as to have more enemies to kill up close?

Or maybe they fight on instinct and don't even have the (probably mediocre) firearms training that Guardsmen do. Let's not forget that an untrained, unarmed human would probably have stats around the 2 mark than 3.

Our politicians are currently trying to ban the sale of cheap alcohol and behind the counter cigarettes (scratch that, they have just succeeded in the latter).
Be sure that they will move onto kitchen knives just as soon as the Sun newspaper splashes a picture of a photogenic knife victim (preferably under the age of ten) across its front pages. This is how health and safety law works in this country

1) Their weapons are notoriously shoddily crafted. To find a real world example look at the AK-47. Highly inaccurate even when fired in Semi Auto mode compared to more modern rifles with tighter fitting components. Loose fitting, hastily made, components lead to inaccurate fire.
2) They love the noise. Where do you think the term Dakka Dakka came from? They fire for the sake of deafening cracks always trying to out dakka the boyz to their sides. If any bystanders are hit in the cacophony of noise, friendly or enemy, then all the better.
3) Their minds are focused on the inevitable "Krumpin" to come. They would just as readily use their Shoota's as clubs to Krump da 'umies skullz as they would use it as a ranged weapon.
Orks are far from stupid but are notoriously simple minded. They fight to live and live to fight. Everything can be summed up that that statement. It doesn't matter how well it works so long as it does. The natural toughness and durability of the Ork will make them shine in close combat one way or another so it doesn't matter if they are wielding a broom handle or a Shoota. The guns are just stop-gaps to the krumpin.

Actually, when orks and guardsmen pair off, orks ARE better at shooting...
IG vs ORK: 4 to hit, 5 to wound
ORK vs IG: 5 to hit, 3 to wound
Orks actually cause more casualties on an equal shooting basis. I have also experienced the "sniper ork" syndrom. It comes every now and then, and when you least expect it. I shot 12 times with sluggas, and killed 5 termintors! Another game I shot 15 slugga shots, 13 hit!
Fluff wise though, orks don't really care if they hit, and its not like they try either. The guns just add to their insane amounts of noise and blood shed. Also, you try running full speed at the enemy with a huge, cobbled together machine-gun that doesn't even have a sight! LMK if you hit anything

Ork shooting is about runnin and gunnin that's why they have BS2. It doesn't matter if they hit anything with their gunz.
It just getz da umies payin mind stead of a weak suprize bashin wit no fightin bak!
Gretchin BS3 shooting has a lot of cowardice behind it and therefore are actually trying to hit something.
