I have been thinking a lot on this subject lately because of the topic that I have on the proposed Blood Angels codex.

To me, my appeal to the Blood Angels is the idea that they are this tragic heroes who where taught by their Primarch to be noble and believe in the best of humanity but constantly have the threat of the blood rage over them.

But I see that most people have this idea that they may as well be Khorne Beserkers. That they care about nothing but drinking blood and strangling their enemies with their bare hands. That may be true of the Death Company, but is that true of the whole chapter?

So I would like to hear your thoughts on the subject. How do you view the chapter, and what makes them truly unique. If you play the chapter, what keeps you coming back?

I agree. I love the duel nature of nobility and savagery. While vampires cover up savagery with a noble exterior, the Blood Angels really are noble. They have angelic souls, like unto their primarch. But even noble souls can fail. There is a bit of poetry in the Blood Angels that is missing in other chapters.

....Khorne Beserkers? yep sums up what they're like when they give in to the thirst ... Other then that i think they try and be noble like all SM chapter ... but they, more then any others, face the risk of damnation to better serve the emperor ... and Death Company is final chance of salvation for those marines

I agree, I've seen them as noble heroes trying to fight off their inevitable damnation at the hands of the Black Rage.

Brotherhood of Blood

Great fluff but lame codex.

I think the codex/WD article has issues. But I do so love the vast use of jump packs! The Sons of Sanguinius take to the skies like their father of old.

As far as death company- it has been shown as a berserk rage, but I prefer the little fluff piece that used to be on the old GW website. It had a Blood Angel who thought he was Sanguinius and was addressing another as though it were Dorn. That mental instability combined with nobility makes a wonderful picture.

Even Death Company marines aren't really comparable to Berzerkers. They think they're Sanguinius at the Siege of Terra. That's the Black Rage.

The Red Thirst, however, is the curse that causes them to thirst for blood from time to time.

“Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to carry us to victory, and the wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father within us, whether it is his hunger for battle, his psychic talent or his determination to succeed. Sanguinius holds it all. It should have been his...” -- The Warmaster Horus

If they all acted like Khorne berzerkers, they would be just like the World Eaters. Which would be really boring.

I've always liked the Blood Angel's fluff, although it never seemed as heavily emphasized as that of the other chapters, apart from the black rage.

The Emperor doesn't seem to do much for you but you sure are expected to be mutilated, suffer, and die to make him happy. And is he dead or what? If he's entombed that would mean he's dead as a doornail, right? So, how can he be happy about anything you do, or even give orders to anyone? Are you worshipping the dead now? Is that something you'd really want to do? Because it sounds freaking creepy to me.
