Hello, I have had a question that has come up in a few battles I have, and that is how are blasts from things like Orbital Blasts and Swooping hawk grenade packs resolved against units with an Armour value. For instance, here's a crappy picture, a Chapter Master calls down an Orbital bombardment on a battle wagon,
Then scatters 4" inches, still having the center hole on the wagon, but in its back arc.
Would the wagon take the shot to its back Armour, or would it still roll against AV 14? I ask this because while the shot is coming from space, the firer is still technically the chapter master.
Now, when in regards to swooping hawks, they aren't even on the board when the charge pack drops. So if it landed in the back arc of a battle wagon, with the hole still centered on the vehicle, would it count as back Armour?

Orbital bombardment is barrage so would hit the top armour so AV 12.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

Okay, so that battlewagon he fragged was legit.
Luckily I had 3 more with 60 orks hitting his last 2 taq squads with master. Pity I could only throw 132 shots a turn.

I'm pretty sure Ordnance barrage hits side armor, in this case 12.
The point of origin is the center hole, not the model firing ordnance barrage.
As for the hawks, I don't know their rules.

agreed. I think shots from above hit side armour. pity about that...cos orks don't really have armour!!
but they do have lots of wagons (with no armour)

I can't seem to find any rule stating that Ordnance Barrages always hit side armour. Perhaps one can be provided by one of the posters who "seem to remember"?

There is a note on p60, last sentance under the bullet point entitled "The centre of the blast marker ends over the vehicle's hull" that states that barrage weapons always hit the side armour.
However, the rules for Ordnance Barrage weapons on p58 never state that they are "barrage" weapons, only that they are like barrage weapons.
So it pretty much comes down to whether you think that "barrage" encompasses both "barrage" and "ordnance barrage" (and so anything that affects "barrage" weapons affects both types, while things that only affect "ordnance barrage" don't affect "barrage" weapons), or that they are completely seperate terms (which is supported by the night fight rules on p95 but causes weirdness like this).
I'd say that RAW indicates that they are seperate, but RAI is pretty clear that "barrage" also includes "ordnance barrage" as well.
