Hey all, Im new to the site only joined on the weekend but have been playing 40k for about 10 years and have finally decided to jump into fantasy. I wanted a knight army but not bretonia so have been thinking of going with a nearly all cavalry empire army, was just wandering how many people here have ran on and how good it was?

Am going to have a Grand master, 3 blocks of about 10 knights, a unit of Inner circle knights, a Wizard, 2 Priests, some Outriders and a steam tank.

So far its just thoughts not sure how well it will run so any feedback would be appreciated.. or if people think I should focus more on infantry for my first Empire army.

Don't run your knights in anything bigger than 6, your paying a heck of a lot for +1 CR that goes away with 1 casualty. I run an all knight Empire army and have been very successful with it, I even manage to stay away from the double stank (way to much cheese there)

I use the exact same heroes, 4 units of 5 knights (naked as bait and flee), 2 units of 6 knights (1 IC with the War Banner), 6 pistoliers, a mortar and a steam tank

Outriders sound nice but pistoliers have the same range (move 16"+fire 8") and can fire EVERY turn. Mortar is just my thing, others will tell you another cannon is the way to go but I like destroying infantry blocks with a single well placed shot. Welcome to Sigmar's faithful!

Thanx papasmurf, did you also stick your wizard, fire lore? with the pistoliers for extra annoyance?

either fire or death, sometimes with the pistoliers sometime with the second full block of knights. Don't really want to lose him if pistoliers bait and flee and then don't rally

What is double stank?

I played a big rank of knights, 3 rows maybe 4, and it went bad. I agree with splitting them up. I thought Pistoleers weapons have Stand and shoot, or is it Shoot or Move. You know what I'm talking about?

If you smell bad, take a shower before playing me. I hate when people devote too much time to something that they can't even shower.

Stank = Steam Tank so Double Stank = 2 Steam Tanks.

Pistols are not Move or Fire weapons. Handguns (and repeater handguns) are.

then what's the point in paying more for outriders? Sory I'm new to Empire.

Exactly.

Papasmurf said it best.

I quite agree with papa smurf espcially after some rule reading. But while where on steam tanks and war machines in general, how effective have you found your steam tank? mainly a distraction? with that mortar you only take one? and it has worked out? sounds like a good setup to me.

What size do you recomment pistoliers squads? between 6 to 12?

I like my mortar because I am very good at guessing ranges, not as effective against monsters but that is what the Stank is for.

as for the Stank, I've found it very effective until it takes more than 3 wounds then its effectiveness really declines but because its a war machine your opponent has to destroy it to get any points for it

I run my pistoliers in groups of 6 with a musician, you can't get ranks so any more is just wasted (hard to go much more than 6 wide on most battlefields)

good luck, let us know what you finally go with as a list
