well i've recently decided to make several squads of
Cadians with Pig Iron heads. would they be legal and
usable outside of friendly games?

Depends where you play your games, if you go to a GW store or event its possible they might dislike them. But given that the majority of the model is GW that seems unlikely.

I wouldn't forsee any issues with a simple head swap though.

The "rule" is that at least 50% of the model must be GW.

I do the whole Pig Iron thing, and I've never had a problem.

Why wouldn't you use pig iron's heads?
They're better than most of the GW ones, better than many of the FW ones, and almost as good as some Westwind/Perry miniatures ones.

I've nopt had any bad news from my local GW about it, but then I'm lucky if the staff there can recognise 10 year old GW minis. I use the Heavy infantry enclosed heads for my Inquisition Storm Troopers. Even if they did, My regular playspace is at a club, where they don't usually get a look in (although we did make the club feature for this month in the local WD).

Failing that, there is an independant gaming store about 20 minutes away that wouldn't care and gives 10% off GW stuff. If GW whine, I just spend elsewhere.

YMMV. Some GW staff can be utter tools.
