A friend and I have a disagreement, he considers the DH as only allies or a chapter UNDER SM. I was always told theya re a seperate entity, they can be used as allies but are not SM per sae.

The Daemonhunters aren't a chapter.
The Grey Knights are a chapter unto themselves (chapter #666). They have their own spacefleet, their own tanks and dreadnoughts, but they don't adhere to Codex: Space Marines and therefore GK aren't SM per se. They can be taken as their own force, but it is most common to see them as allies in other armies.

yeah, DH are to SM as Chaos SM are to SM.

Not saying that Chaos SM and DH are the same!

But, that they are both SM, while not SM in the gaming sense.
