Hi dakka!

I have been working on some different lists for a WOC all cav force. My experience with WFB is limited however I do understand the need for an anvil or rock unit in a force. My question is can a knight unit act as a anvil or should I be building a marauder horsemen unit for this purpose?

Ex.

10 Chaos knights 460 PTS
MON
Standard
Musician

or

20 Chaos Marauder Horsemen 318 PTS
Shield
Light armour
MOS
Standard
Musician

After the 2 main core choices are filled (most likely units of 5 marauder horsemen with light armour and flails) I would be using the bulk of points for 2 additional knight units 5 strong with MOS as the hammers.

ex.

chaos lord
chaos steed
mos
bronze armour
runesword

chaos sorcerer
chaos steed
dispel scroll
dispel scroll

10 chaos knights or 20 marauder horsemen as seen above

5 chaos knights
mos

5 chaos knights
mos

5 marauader horsemen
light armour
flails

5 marauader horsemen
light armour
flails

Total PTS 1495

Fire off your thoughts on if this is practical.

Here's a list I've tried against slaanesh demons, it worked wonders. You don't really use your knights as anvils becuase they destroy most units they run into in the first round of combat . Also the exalted on jugger is really scary!

The list:

Heroes-690pts.

Exalted-Mok, Berserker sword, Shield, Juggernaut-230

Exalted-Mok, Glaive of Putrefaction, Blasphemous Amulet, Shield Juggernaut-230

Sorcerer-Lv2, MoT, Collar of Khorne, Book of Secrets, Conjoined Homunculus, Disc of Tzeench-230

Core-300pts.

Horsemen-5, MoS, Flails, LA-90

Horsemen-5, Mok, Flails, LA-115

Hounds-5 -30

Hounds-5 -30

Hounds-5 -30

Special-500pts.

Knights-5, MoK, Standard-250

Knights-5, MoK, Standard-250

My opponent was not pleased when he saw this on the opposite side of the table, use with care ;

I have 3 quick questions about your setup:

1. Did you find you were being outclassed for magic or were you in combat soon enough that it didn't matter?
2. Are the 2 exult. Heros leading the 2 knight groups?
3. Were the hounds a good value as a screen?

He had two lv. 1's and he choose the spell wich makes one unit stupid and with my 3 DD i could stop 1 spell per turn. I started with both exalted in a knight unit but they are capable of destroying smaller units by themselves! Hounds are always good screens and I've had good use of them in every game I've played

Thanks!

Awsome feedback! I am going to trim down that 3rd group of knights and lord and see if I can get a couple of exulted on jugs instead. Hopefully there will be enough points at the end of the day for some hounds!
I will post my revised list after I tweak it.

The all cavalry armies work on a principle call MSU or multiple small units. In that way of building and running army you don't really use anvils or large units as the whole point of MSU armies is to get a extremely mobile army and out move your enemy. The army also relies on multiple charge as a way of winning combats, not static CR, which is coming from large anvil units.
