here are my thoughts for using the thunder bolt fighter in games of apocalypse.
-first as a dogfighter (A-A) that is how it is used in the fluff and it works well in that position on the flip side you don't see many other fighters
- second as titan hunter, its mobility allows it to get behind and close in side of its void sheilds unleash 4 hellstrikes and take out a few structure points then kill it of with other units, on the other hand if the titan lives the fighter is gone.
-third as an anti armor unit shoot the tank!!
can any one see any better/more uses.

Friend of mine has one and I have seen it used a couple of times, It seems to work best as a tank hunter to be honest. Always hitting side armor with the number of shots it gets, you normaly don't even need to use the hellstrikes. If you happen to face another flyer it is able to drop the thing quick, with AA mount autocannons, but expect to be hunting armor more often than not. Against a Titan your probably not going ot get much effect out of it, unless your trying to drop the void shields for the rest of your army. Most of them have a side armor of 13 which means your your autocannons are pretty worthless, leaving you with one lascannon and what ever hellstrikes you have left.

Having just finished painting a Thunderbolt, I'm interested in how it performs.
Its first outing will be at a 6000pt Apoc game next saturday (31st jan) as part of a combined Imperial Force (Sisters, IG, Marines) taking on a mainly Khornate Chaos Force (CSM, Daemons).
As far as I know it should be safe, as I'm pretty sure nothing in the CSM or Daemon lists has an AA mount except for the Hellblade, so unless the other guys have bought one in secret... (trust me, I wouldn't put it past them!!) it should be free to strafe at ground targets.
The main question is will it make its points back??

Have you thought about the Axis of Evil pension scheme? |

Pintle mounted weapons are all AA, btw.
And if you are smart, it will make it's points back.

good call on the pintle weapons , I'd forgotten that one.
Do havoc launchers count as pintle mounted? I'm not worried about combi-bolters as they need 6's to glance (although I'll still keep away from them, no point in tempting fate) but havoc's could potentially be dangerous...

No havoks aren't Pintle. so have fun tearing through the Heretics lines with neigh impunity, unless he's got Combi plasmaguns on his rhinos, those you'd have to stay away from until he's fired them once.
