((Realised i posted this in the wrong forum, so have taken the liberty of reposting here.))
Having dug out the small handful of Vossies that have been collecting dust in my bits box for ages, I finally felt inspired enough to paint up a few of these guys. These are providing something of a distraction from my =I=munda stuff, but its a fun distraction so I'm not too worried.
With a few more purchases under my belt, I've now got my Comand
HQ, one infantry platoon, a few partial support squads (lots of special weapons and snipers, just needing a few las gun troopers to make up numbers) and two thirds of a mortar squad (which will become a mortar platoon eventually). I'm also tempted to use the rhino thats sat in my cupboard to represent a command rhino transport for them just for fun and extra PH flavour...
So why the Geno? Well, I've always been one of those hobbiests that gets quickly bored with "standard" colours schemes (when I try them myself that is - I love them on other peoples armies...) and backgrounds. However the pre-Heresy background hooked me good and proper, and the artwork on the cover of Legion showed me a way to use the beautiful Vossie models without conforming to the usual schemes and established background. Coupled with the presence of uxors and the opportunity to work on some pre-Heresy warmachines (nothing lined up yet, but one day...), I believe I've finally found my Imperial Army niche.
So, onto the pics:
Not shown in the pics above are a Khador Widowmaker squad (destined to either represent four snipers or three snipers plus an uxor...), two more officers, a witch hunter inquisitor (will become an uxor probably) and an
inq henchman (scribe type - havent worked out what he'll be doing yet). Priority purchases at the moment are geared towards completing my existing support squads (i.e. sourcing lasgun troopers) and completing the mortar platoon.
Regarding the models, I'm not really looking to do much converting with these guys - the models are nice as they are and close enough to the Legion artwork to not really need any modifying. Imperial aquilas will stay where present as I don't want to bog myself down with having to file down every other mini I want to paint. Same goes for the Vostroyan V badge - I'll simply consider these to be members of the 5th Company of the G5-2C Regiment rather than causing myself extra work.
The Uxor is a Warmachine Warcaster figure (came with the Khador battlegroup boxset) and looks perfect alongside the Vossies. Aside from pinning her weapon in place (it was very fragile and snapped off at the bottom) theres no conversion work required or desired.
I've got enough other heavy conversion projects on the go at the moment (Necromunda stuff, a burgeoning stealer cult, a landspeeder conversion...) so the Chiliad troops will be mostly stock with the occasional mod for variety. Instead I'll be focussing on paint jobs instead - Iyanden Darksun Coats with purple lotus print freehand patterning and Khaki inner lining. Should be enough of a challenge to keep me on my toes I think. I started some Vossie snipers a while back (which since got sold - d'oh!) and was using them as a real push-my-painting skills exercise, and that will now become the aim of these guys instead.
Having not played the game for a while, if someone could help me out with some squad structuring advice, that would be much appreciated.
Specifically:
1) I've got a heavy bolter team in one squad and a lascannon team in t'other. What would be the most suitable special weapons to go with these squads?
2) My command
HQ has officer, vox, standard (and uxor). Should I add two special weapons, a spec plus a medic, or something else to make up the numbers? If a spec weapon, which one is most suitable for a command
HQ (long or short range?).
3) Mortar platoon will have three mortar squads, plus command of officer, vox, mortar team plus ?. Medic or spec weapon or trooper?
Obviously I still need another infantry platon before this little lot becomes game legal, but its definitely getting there.
Painting has commenced, though its all very much early stage stuff at the moment.
Vox blokey is furthest along with a couple more highlights to go on the face and then I can concentrate on his clothes/kit. Havent quite got the nerve up for the freehand cloth detail yet, but I will need to start getting this down before I start highlighting the great coats, so I'm going to have to bite the bullet sooner or later. I have picked out the design I'll be using though - it'll be something close to the image on the left hand banner shown below:
Anyway, consider yourselves officially welcomed to my little blog of Geno's.
Pleae feel free to leave any and all comments and criticism.
Cheers,
