Haven't really seen a lot of these I am actually considering taking a Warhound. I dunno though what I would base it around , do people expect to see a lot of super heavies at this tourney?

It will be my first 40k convention so I wann play in all the tournaments I can.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

There will definitely be superheavies, gargantuan creatures, and fliers.

Balanced against that, no army which included structure points has ever won. An army with Trygon has won in the past, as well as the first version of the super-bloodthirster.

Generally, the Gladiator includes mission objectives which are harder to complete, if you include some giant/expensive unit. In order to win, you have to get just about every available point.

My advice: don't worry about winning. You can't control the matchups, and at 2250 pts with Forgeworld stuff in play, there will be SOMETHING there that you just can't handle. Bring something you'd be amused to play.

Getting my broom incase there is shenanigans.

A couple of years ago in the first round of the Gladiator I played against an Iron Warriors army that had 2 Warhound Titans. I was able to beat it with a balanced Word Bearers army, but I lost to a Godzilla list.

Last year I took a balanced Eldar list and I added a lot of Fire Dragons incase I was matched up against a super heavy (the plastic Baneblade just came out), and I never got a whiff of one, instead I was fed a steady diet of Orks and they were next to useless.

From all of my past Gladiator experience, here is my advice:
Do not build a well rounded army. If you do, you will face 4 out of whack armies, and you are going to be in trouble.

What you want to do is build an army that dominates one phase of the game, and that is way out of balance. These armies will always have a few bad match-ups, you just hope that you will not face them. So my advice is to take the Warhound.

To give you an example of what I am talking about, take Centurians99’s list from last year. He had a ton of Genestealers, a Trygon and a bunch of other goodies. If he ever played against a mech elder or tau player he would have a good chance at losing. He got lucky and never faced one, and won.

This is the same principle that the Nob Biker armies work under. 95% of all armies out there have nothing that can beat them, so the odds are in your favor

Better get busy if you are planning on bringing a Titan! Those things take forever to put together and paint.

I wasn't totally screwed if I'd faced mech, as I did have a decent amount of shooting for a nid army, but it definitely wouldn't have been easy.

Based on my experience, I'd agree with Blackmoor, though - you want an army that will do at least one thing extremely, extremely well. But you also need a flexible force, and one that can realistically go after multiple (sometimes completely unrelated) objectives.
