Behold and quake before the power of the Westboro Baptist Church!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/7903344.stm

Erm, or not. As the case may be.

So, I wonder what the great wrath will be that the Phelps have so promised. I mean, if one person now contitutes a mass protest, perhaps the Apocalypse has been similarly down graded having ones feet tickled for five minutes?

I saw them on a BBC show they are strange, the end times aren't coming for long(I hope there is still so much to do),they are just a bunch of people who picket saying things like,"God hates America",and such I think they are just nut jobs.

Indeed.

Though exceedingly scary nutjobs. Louis Theroux seemed pretty terrified during most of his interviews. Worst of all was one of the elder Daughters calmly telling him he was going to Hell simply because he'd had a kid out of wedlock.

Bizarre little family that one, and I for one am kind of amused that two of them have been banned from entering Britain! And to perfectly honest, with the whole picketing Funerals thing, I am genuinely amazed nobody has at least kicked their heads in. I mean, I don't agree with the war in Iraq, but I fully appreciate that Soldiers become what they are from a desire to protect our way of life, and it's hardly their fault if the Politicians send them into crap wars.

But to claim somebody was killed in a foreign country is punishment for not hating homosexuals is....a little bizarre. And as I said, I'd have imagined picketing the funerals is a bloody stupid thing to do.

He is hated here. I'm surprised (seriously) he wasn't shot protesting at one of the funerals. I'm not calling for anything at all, but if my son had just died, I were at his funeral, and these showed up saying he deserved to die, well they would reap the whirlwind.

For a while they had a group of bikers following the group around not allowing them to protest. I think thats about the time they started to stop doing that, but I'm not up on current events.

Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Yarr.

From what I recall, Bush signed into Law an act preventing protesting at Funerals, in so far as it couldn't be within a certain distance.

And Frazz, pretty much my same approach. I've got some friends in the British Army, and I have total respect for what they do. So to picket a funeral for one of them would be met with...yeah...

Phelps is scum. I feel sorry for his grand-daughter who he dragged into his insane protests. I heard she won't marry or have any sort of non church-related social life because she thinks the world is going to end in her life time. I'm glad the Brits had the good sense to keep them out of the country.

Found this little beauty on the Wiki page about the website of the group we are discussing...

Wiki Article wrote:On September 19, 2008 - International Talk Like A Pirate Day - a group of protesters in Arkansas began to picket a Convention Center with "God Hates Fags" signs were interrupted by a "counter-protest" from a group dressed as Pirates, affiliated with the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. By waving signs which parodied the WBC group while also referencing passages from the Bible - e.g., "God Hates Cotton-Polyester Blends" - and behaving in a Pirate-like manner, the counter-protesters drew both public and media attention to themselves, forcing the original group to withdraw in defeat. Due to the coincidentally auspicious date, this was seen as a major victory on behalf of anti-WBC movements.[101]

So, how long following this thread can we expect to see a 'God Hates Dakka' website.

I remember being exposed to these morons via Louis Theroux last year.

Im all for freedom of opinion but in the case of these inbred hatemongering word removed they cannot, as far as I'm conrened, leave this mortal coil soon or violently enough.

When Fred Pheps pop's his clogs I hope the local gay populace choose to picket his funeral. Perhaps they can hold an orgy on his grave.

I'm all for the right to protest but aim it the government. It's simple common sense. There are plenty of military bases for them to chant around.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

At least this time the UK government got it right when considering who to omit from the nation on political grounds.

These nuts go too far, and are considered an embarassment to the church as a whole. Some biblical passages are controversial, worse if you read them out of context. But there is nothing that supports their attitudes in any well reaserched theology.

I'm not convinced anyone should be excluded on political grounds but in this case I expect they nailed them on the incitement to hatred clause.

Personally I agree with the US video presenter (brilliant video, BTW) who said the great thing about freedom of speech is that it also allows freedom to protest against hate speech.

You can only confront bad ideas by letting them into the open where they can be attacked.

Are these Phelps people anything to do with the Landover Baptists?

Actually Grotnik it is fairly obvious, if you understand churches, it takes the piss out of religious extremists, but leaves God alone. It's fun witty and doesnt cause offense.

This is how it's done.
