I'm just starting fantasy and all the armies are catching my eyes. Any info or help so I can make up my mind are much appreciated.
I'd like to know:
1.) which army is the most competitive
2.) hardest/easiest army to learn how to play with
3.) simplest army to paint (I currently only have moderate painting skills... don't want to screw up)
4.)Most fun to play against (I want my enemies to be enjoying the game as much as I am)
5.) and finally which race do you guys encounter least (I would prefer to play as an army that is seldom used)
 -thanks guys

Greetings!
as to your questions
1) Daemons of Chaos. But be prepared to lose ALL your gaming friends
2) Hardest: Ogre Kingdoms Easiest: Vampire Counts
3) Hmm, I'd go for........Warriors of Chaos. Lotsa Armor.
4) Orcs and Goblins. Let no one tell you otherwise, lol
5) Beastmen. But they're codex is pretty bad (not to be mean)
Hopefully this helped! any questions, just PM me

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

thanks that really helped. I'm looking at vampire counts now and I am starting to like them. They seem easy to paint(their troops) and Cryonicleech stated that their easy to learn how to play. How common is a vampire counts player? And how pissed would they be in my flgs if I brought it to the table?

1.) Daemons and Dark Elves are dominate the tournament standings.
2.) Ogre Kingdoms, Beasts of Chaos and Wood Elves are very difficult armies to master, while Dwarfs, Orcs and Goblins, any all-Khorne chaos army and Vampire Counts are among the easier armies to general. (sidenote: easily generaled and easy to win with are two separate things)
3.) Zombies and Skeletons can be easily done with a primer color and ink wash, so Vampire Counts and Tomb Kings. Skaven are easily painted as they're black with dry brushed brown for fur and then you paint their clothing.
4.) Random armies are good "fun" armies, so Skaven and Orcs and Goblins fit in that category well. Also, Armies that force good generalship through a glaring strength balanced by a glaring weakness are fun as well. This includes Tomb Kings, Lizardmen and Wood Elves.
5.) in my play group Chaos has a very weak showing with only one Beasts of Chaos army, one Mortals of Chaos army and no Daemons of Chaos armies. But that is not reflective of the norm.

5. Probably Beasts of Chaos appear least often, and only because the person has
invested loads of time into the army. I think I've seen mostly everything else for
various reasons.
