like the title says i need help
i am new to fantasy but hav been playing 40k for ages. i need help choosing an army and then a 500-750pt army list

It all depends on what style of army that you would like to play or what mini's you like...

Did you have anything in mind for an army?
What is your style of army?
What 40K army's do you play?
Is it for competitive of friendly play?
Are there any armies that you wont play?

A little more in the way of direction will assist those here to help.

Without any kind of information to base this suggestion off of, I suggest:

Ogre Kingdoms.

For general lists Lizardmen, High Elves and Empire are good armies that can adapt well to a number of scenarios or playing styles.

Vampire counts and Daemons seems to be the best for tournament play (their popular at lest) With Dark Elves not far behind.

After that it becomes what kind of meta game you play and what kind of army you want to create? Do you want a Goody Goody army or an evil army?

i like cheap expendable units
i wont play vamps, deamons, toom kings, ogre kingdom, orks and goblins
i will be playin freindly and tournys
i like reasonably easy armys to paint

If you like cheap, expendable units, avoid the elves.

Empire is probably not too bad for you to get into - lots of metal armor.

i dont realy like the empire i hav plaid their 40k equivilant the IG and didnt like it

Well, how exactly do you like to play?

Clearly you don't like IG in 40k, so you're saying that you don't want a sit-back-and-shoot army?

Do you want to focus on Magic? Do you want to play aggressively? Do you prefer defensive play? A little more input from you could help us help you better.

First, don't go comparing 40k and fantasy armies. Empire is not the WFB equivalent of IG. But they really don't have cheep expendable units, and really aren't the easiest to paint. Brettonians ARE NOT cheep. quite the opposite. their models are on the expensive side of points because they are nearly all cavalry. This translates to a very easy to play army. almost point and click. your game should go like this: turn one move into charge range. turn 2 Charge. Turn three turn around. turns 4-6 repeat. Straigh forward and not too much to think about. Add in Pegasus knights and you have a very powerful force but not much in the way of tactics.

Skaven would be great for what you want. Slaves are 2 pts/model and clan rats are not very expensive at all. Ratling guns are AWESOME!!! and are also very cheep. plus side of the Skaven is that they get extra Ld for every rank they have in the unit. You can have very magic heavy, or very shooting heavy armies and both will have decent HTH support.

Lizardmen Are not really a cheep army points wise. yes the skinks are 5 pts/mosel for the cohorts, but they really aren't worth taking. most people just upgrade to skirmishers. Saurus are where it's at with the new book, and they are 11 pts each, 12 because you will want to give them spears. Steggadons are amazing, as well as the Engine of the gods. they can own the magic phase if you take a slann, but if you do be prepared to spend 450-550 pts on him. But the Lizards are very easy to paint. possibly the easiest to paint, especially the skinks.

My advise for you would to go with skaven. reasonably easy to paint. dirt cheap units and faily flexible and competitive.

lizardmen have awesome models, so do brettonians, but brettonians are limited in the way that they don't have a very extensive model range. I don't know anything about skaven so I cant help you there. And just for the record.. empire and IG are not equivalents.

I think you're good with Skaven. They're ridiculously cheap, Slaves are underpriced in my opinion, although its the pricing that makes them so good. They have fairly powerful magic, 2 or 3 Warplock Engineers with some decent upgrades rip the magic phase. Their Warp Lightning spell is far from bad, easy to cast and quite powerful. They're cool in combat with their Plague Monks, but that's all really. Just sit back with Jezzails, Warp Lightning Cannon, Ratling Guns and Warplock Engineers and away you go.

Skaven is indeed a verry good army for magic and verry expendable units, even so expendable that you will often blow your own slaves to pulp, however in CC they are not so tough unless you have some assassins or heros, they have to get the strenght out of the shooting and magic instead of the melee, almost anything other then a men at arms is stronger then the average rat, but since theres so many you still have a good chance of winning the fight.

If you want to be great in CC and Magic, you could concider high elf, or dalk elf, but their troops arent realy expendable. you could often get 4-5 slaves for one elf.
So if you want to have a huge body count, or rather small and elite force, maybe this can help you decide.

Im not realy experienced with playing warhammer but i do have some knowledge about the armies. ^^

At 750 its going to be hard to be good at magic. Wizards are too expensive, and at this points level you will hurt your model count quite a bit if you try to go all out on magic. Unless of course you go for the block of spear elves with sorcerer w/ sacrifice dagger.

Well here is my attempt to make something playable at this points level:

Sorcerer: general, sac dagger, lvl 2

warriors: 15 full command shield

5 dark riders w/ xbows

10 black guard, full command, champion with crimson death, magic banner: hag graef

5 cold one knights

the sorcerer goes in the warriors, stabs guys only when needed. (as opposed to higher point games, where she might be a lvl 4 and stabs 2-5 guys a turn)
The warriors are largely expendable, but try to stay out of combat with them, their point is to fuel the sorceress, and to protect her as well.
Dark riders shoot, bait chargers, threaten flanks, and try to march block. They are also somewhat expendable, their role is a distraction, so you should be happy when your opponent make an effort to deal with them.
Black guard is the main combat unit, these guys are proven to be very good, some of the best foot infantry in the game.
Cold one knights are for extra killing power that is more mobile (and higher strength) than the black guard. If you manage flank a unit engaged with your black guard I don't see very many instances where you will fail to win combat.

Dark riders and black guard are metal, so they have a high price for a starting army. If you don't get them now, you will end up wanting them latter as your army gets bigger. Plus these two units are part of what make dark elves work so well.

I would actually not support dark elves as we have no expendable infantry (minus spears) and even then they are pretty expensive for expendable. I would actually suggest Chaos Mortals. They have the option for expendable troops and their cores are the best in the game. They'd fit perfectly for you, I believe

If your looking to have fun you cannot go wrong with O&G. I play a full Night Goblin List with lots of Fanatics and I love it!

Aqualung, I don't think he likes the OnG. He stated it above.

If you are gonna play dark elves, i'd stick to the above list. there are very few flaws in it and it's quite balanced.

You will enjoy the Dark Elves. Just make sure you 'try it before you buy it'. Last thing you want is a bunch of models sitting around and not being used.

ye true but i hav seen them play before and loved them but that is why i am starting with 750 pts and am tryin to buy most stuff on discount or at the dakka swap shop
